@TheStateIsWatchin i love hip hop but you are completely right. I took a college course called survey of hip hop and we watched documentaries that revealed acting hard and like a drug dealer was a huge marketing scheme. Im not say that there arent rappers who have come from tough pasts but they definitely try to develop a “hard” image. There was a specific part I remember where Busta said sarcastically during a photo shoot “Cuz were thugs right, were gangsters” I think young rappers today feel like they have to actually be hard and be gangsters

Yeah you should take anything any rappers say about their past with a pinch of salt. Most rappers are playing characters.

Everyone talks about gangsta shit because that’s what sells records. Look at Rick Ross, he was a nobody. Then he went and fabricated stories about selling drugs, now he’s one of the biggest rappers out there. It came out a few years ago that it was all bullshit and he actually worked as a prison guard, but no-one cared, they still bought his records.

As Jay-Z says, it’s only entertainment.

@TheStateIsWatchin 2 Chainz was arrested for a felony charge on possession of cocaine when he was like 15. He probably didn’t make a million off selling drugs, but it’s safe to say that he did sell drugs for cash, and it probably was a big part of his life which is why it is so talked about in his music.

What people don’t understand is that it’s not the artist fault, It’s the listeners. I’m one of the several who still believes in true lyricism. There’s more to hip hop then clothing, or cars, or rapping about something else besides “girls, women, and bitches” so never will you ever find 2 Chainz, lil wayne, tyga, rick ross, (I would say drake but I enjoy some of drakes music), Soulja Boy, French Montana. @Me , Drake and 2 Chainz have known each other for a while though, 4 years at the minimum. Puffy & Biggie had raspy shit going on, Puffy did Big FOUL. The same goes for Suge & Tupac. 2 Chainz is no different than 98% of ‘rappers’ today – 25 years ago Rap as a genre was all bout the story and the taking you through it from the beginning of the album to the end in a lot of cases, now it’s refreshing to hear a rapper get through one track on point. Also RAP wasn’t nearly as broad as today which is why I think there should be ‘official subcategories’ or entire new genres made.
