This very line is what started the beef between The Luniz and Too $hort. Around the mid-90s, Too $hort decided to leave Oakland and relocated to Atlanta. It was widely reported that $hort was ran out of Oakland, and this track caused Too $hort to respond in “That’s Why” where he states he left Oakland for constant trouble with the police.

It started at the ‘95 KMEL Summer Jam when Short’s bodyguard pulled a gun on members of Luniz entourage after a scuffle broke out over a minor dispute that had carried over the last year or two and sparked a massive brawl. Short was banned from the Summer Jam and had most of his records pulled from the radio station. This incident also pushed The Notorious B.I.G., who was supposed to perform, to call out the Bay Area and led to the brief beef with E-40.

The rumor is that when Ice Cube left he had no intentions of dissing NWA. However he had no problem dissing Jerry Heller and high ranking officials of Ruthless Records. NWA felt Cube was being selfish and dissed him first on “100 Miles and Runnin' (Clean Version)”.

Cube then created this Kill at Will EP with this song put on to use a collection of beats he, allegedly, knew NWA would, allegedly, use on their upcoming projects he was no longer working on.

This caused NWA to attack Cube full scale on Efil4Zaggin.

Ren suggests that Ice Cube was full of himself and that NWA’s continued success after Cube departed was enough evidence to prove that.

Although both parties albums around this time had great sales, NWA owned the media spotlight.

And ironically, Cube would blow up in stardom once he starred in “Boyz N the Hood” and released Death Certificate while NWA would dissolve for reasons Cube originally left for.

With this Kurupt solo track (Daz stayed off) having a beat originally intended for a Biggie St. Ides commercial and later placed on their debut album, the video caused some controversy when Snoop Dogg was seen kicking around buildings in New York godzilla style in response to their trailer being shot at thanks to complaints by Notorious BIG. Sparked the response record from Capone-N-Norega, Mobb Deep, and Tragedy Khadafi, LA, LA in which the impersonated members of Tha Dogg Pound where thrown off the Queensboro Bridge. Dogg Pound would then come back with a true response more volatile and directly aimed at New York with the apropos title: NY ‘87.
