“Soup” or “souped” is slang for being animated, and Redman is displaying that style on this song over the funk bassline.

The pronunciation of “D-Rums, Please!” is showing homage to the opening of “Summertime” by DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince.

And it’s an interesting breakage in meter as the D-Rums ends one rhyme scheme while Please starts the next rhyme scheme

By the time Cam dropped his debut S.D.E., Mase was getting ready for his semi-retirement back to Atlanta to be a pastor. Mase did return the next year in 2005 after this album dropped. It may be an assumption, since this was around the time of the Roc-a-fella dissolution, that Cam had erased his alliance with Jay-Z and let Mase know it was safe to come back being that Mase left when his beef was Jay-Z was escalating and his departure led to Jay focusing on other threats such as Nas, Mobb Deep, Jaz-O, Jayo Felony, Bravehearts, Jadakiss and members of Ma$e’s Harlem World group.

Shock G produced the original version and also sung portions of the hook but of course, much of Tupac’s original studio work was remixed due to the massive lawsuits with Suge Knight, Interscope, Amaru Ent., and former Death Row Artists (including Eminem winning a suit to bar artists, mainly Ja Rule, from using Tupac samples). However, this song was one of the better remixes completed in the posthumous Tupac era.
