PROPOSED SUGGESTION:

Opening lyrics of the album. The primary concept of the album has to do with Steven Wilson’s fascination with the psychopath’s mind, and this line displays that regardless of how deranged some humans become, they all start from the same place as the rest of us.

Probably referring to his wife. He is basically calling her a machine designed for pleasure and making kids. The narrator clearly has a significant lack of human empathy and the song title ‘Strip the Soul’ fits that motif perfectly.

The title of this song does a great job describing what the song is about. The narrator is giving his victim sedatives. He seems to have every intention of raping his victim according to the lyrics

He paralyzes her then proceeds to murder her. To him this is a far better alternative to letting her go and never seeing her again. He gets to be as close to her as has always desired and gets to be with her in her dying moment.

Continuing to follow the theme of the album, this song is about a man in love with a woman (or vise versa) and the woman does not feel the same way about him. This drives the man insane and he murders the woman he loves in brutal fashion and now can spend the rest of his life with her lifeless body. Pretty dark.

We live in a society today where everyone has such short attention spans. When we receive things, instead of being grateful, all we’re thinking about is what are we going to get next.

This also plays off the “there must be more to life” sentiment about trying to find meaning in our lives.

(from Wikipedia)
While not a formal concept album, many of the songs still have common themes related to serial killers, youthful innocence gone wrong, and criticisms of the modern world. The album’s title is also tied into this, with the phrase being Latin for “in absence” or “in one’s absence”, often in reference to a person’s rights when mentally unable to be represented in court in legal situations. Wilson said of the title:
“It comes from…it’s related to some of lyrics. It’s about people on the fringes, on the edges of humanity and society. I have an interest in serial killers, child molesters and wife beaters…not in what they did but in the psychology of why, what caused them to become unhinged and twisted? Why are they unable to empathize? It’s [In Absentia] sort of a metaphor – there’s something missing, a black hole, a cancer in their soul. It’s an absence in the soul.”

Basically saying that if you have any intentions of having sex with your girlfriend and you get caught making a move, they will kill you and send your body back to your family in a box.

This section seems to mirror his mother’s views on keeping Pink sheltered from any form of relationship, sexual or otherwise. It also seems to be playing on society’s view of sex being a forbidden activity, with Pink of course taking the punishment for such an act to the level of death or at least violence.
