Nothing better in the world than the love of a family. Since the original recording, Seth Avett has changed up the lyrics when he performs the song live.

Circa 2009, he sang:

Make sure my daughter knows I loved her
Make sure her mother knows the same"

Whereas in 2016 he’s changed it yet again to be:

Make sure my girls know I love them
Make sure my boys know the same"

Since he first wrote the song, he’s started his own family and has experienced this for himself.
