“Freak Nique” is a play on Freaknik, the name of an annual spring gathering that took place in Atlanta during the 90’s.
What initially started in 1983 as a party for students from nearby historically black colleges and universities quickly grew into a festival that attracted upwards to 250,000 people from around the country. Due to the rowdy crowds, reports of crime, and the crippling impact on Atlanta’s roads, Freaknik was effectively shut down in 1999 thanks to police cracking down on any Freaknik-related activities.
The women Reese describes in the song embody the raunchy, devil-may-care attitude that was prevalent at the later, wilder, Freakniks.
Despite it getting shut down well over a decade ago, Freaknik is still referenced by contemporary artist.
The concern was that peeping toms could get away with their crimes by claiming they are trans-gendered, which seems like a pretty easy thing to disprove in court.

J.R. Crickets is a small chain restaurant that has 9 locations around Atlanta and specializes in chicken wings.
“Hit the spot” is an expression usually used to show that you were satisfied with a meal, but, “spot” can also refer to one’s house. Reese is actually saying that he got Tyesha to come home with him after eating, which was as satisfying as the 10 wings he just ate.
