Meek creates a pun, as the word “carry” is pronounced identical to Mariah Carey’s last name. Meek also compares Nicki Minaj’s wealth to that of Mariah, which isn’t really that close upon further look. Nicki is worth an estimated at $70 million while Mariah Carey is estimated at $535 million.

Reportedly the two superstars do not get along with each other, and they clashed when they were judges on American Idol.

In September 2015, Rocky ran into some trouble when he stated in an interview with TimeOut that he didn’t feel like he needed to support the Black Lives Matters movement in Ferguson, MO. Here Rocky uses irony, claiming to lyrically murder the very people whose lives he says matter.

The line could also be interpreted as criticism towards people of all races who are quick to demonize white cops when a black person is shot, even though they turn a blind eye to the amount of black lives that are lost in regards to things like gang violence—thus not really caring about black lives.

Twitter is my social media vice of choice, and I actually have several accounts that are absolute pleasure to follow:

Lil B – Perhaps the most fastinating Twitter account to ever exist, Lil B’s tweets range from random encouraging statements to his opinions on video games.

Vince Staples – Vince’s Twitter is very that of a typical rapper, promoting shows and new music he’s put out. But, Vince’s personality is one of the best in the game. His timeline mixes thoughtful social commentary with hilarious and sometimes sobering results.

Mitski – Mitski is an exteremly talented singer-songwriter who’s music often captures the struggles of being a 20-something year old just trying to figure out life and love. Her Twitter account often does the same, except with a much more tongue-in-cheek approach.

“Corn” is London slang for “bullets” and “Man dem” is Jamaican patois slang meaning “those men over there.” This term originated from the Carribean, but found its way to the streets of the UK where it is widely used to refer to a group of friends or homies. These “man dem” are talking down on Dave “on a low,” or in secret.

Drake gets hits on the Billboard charts like he’s playing softball, a sport where the pitcher throws the ball underhanded, a style of pitch that’s, traditionally, much easier to hit.

In 2015, Drake actually participated in a celebrity softball game.

Drake uses the term “more life” to wish his parents Dennis and Sandy well. Even though Drake dropped this song to celebrate his 30th birthday, his family still feels the effect of the divorce his parents had when he was 5.

After going through tough times, Dennis has flourished—he dropped an R&B song, and can now afford Stacy Adams, a menswear brand.
