There is no way this way the movie of the year:it was actually decent. But that does not stop it being tinged with disappointment.

My main beef :Godzilla is in it for less than 10 minutes. This is not a Hitchcock horror this is Godzilla. When he is on, it is awesome. When he is off : i could not care less.

So…so good. Marvel’s victory lap over DC is complete. The original comic was barmy aand brilliant, and the movie encapsulates this while adding an awesome soundtrack and amazing cinematic moments.

Unfortunately, this site is not acceptable for college referencing. Which is unfortunate as you are probably here looking for last minute padding.

This was the scene that made the movie.

Terrifying, tense and dramatic, the lack of language sucked the viewer into a form of close reading, where every apes' movement, facial expression of the (brilliantly captured) performance needed to be scrutinized.

The scene also carved through a whole bunch of movie halting exposition. It revealed the ape’s society and how they had fared since the 1st movie, without missing a beat. Apes are here : they are predators now.

This lack of exposition links with the lack of dialogue. The Apes make few noises, and communicate through a form of sign language. This is entirely within reason (as apes don’t have controllable vocal cords) and increases the fear we feel at seeing these new apes. They can understand us, but we can’t understand them (without translation.)

And it has a full on Mortal Kombat moment with Koba vs the bear.

It narrowly shaded this X-Men scene which would have won had it used that music in the actual movie.

The Falcon is back!

With Harrison Ford returning as Han Solo, it would make sense that he is piloting the ship. Unless this is a trick, something which Abrams has pulled with other Sci Fi franchises in the past.

Mr Glass is a pretty evil name and the reveal is quite obvious when you look back at it. He is costumed, has a disability (a la Mr Freeze), is spiteful and is reminiscent of The Riddler.

As outlined in the monologue he gave earlier:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=omjySV9M7wo

  • the hero is rugged (a la Bruce Willis) with a square jaw and fearsome strength
  • The large head of the villain. While Jackson’s head s not any bigger, his unusual afro cut makes it seem that way throughout the movie.
  • The villain and the hero are ‘realistic.’ Both Price and Dunne follow this rule : they live ordinary lives, they are unaware of their roles until middle age, their ‘powers’ are unexplored. Similarly, their final ‘battle’ is a handshake and a phonecall to the cops.

Mr Glass also follows other traditional comic rules:

  • The superhero and main villain frequently gets their superpowers either from the same source or similar sources. Both are medical,Mr Glass’s being from his bone condition.
  • Many villains and heroes share some sort of personal connection outside of work. Both have an interest in each other before the truth is revealed.
  • No matter how smart a supervillain allegedly is, he will commit 95%+ of his crimes in a city that has superheroes.

Interestingly at the conclusion of the movie another rule comes into play:

  • No matter how many people he’s killed, a supervillain will never get the death penalty

OT: Why did the kids call a fellow child Mr Glass? Maybe he was kid glass and it changed as he got older.

Another subtle hint about Dunne’s powers is hidden in his name. Golden Age comic characters (Peter Parker, Reed Richards, Lex Luthor) often had alliterate names.

This video is traditionally played around the holidays, so much so that it has become a traditional Christmas anthem. To quote the coke website ‘The illuminated vehicles have become global advertising icons since they launched on TV back in 1995.’ The ad was scrapped but was brought back in 2001.

The trucks now go on a Christmas tour and have their own Twitter account.

A comparison that while you and your gang are small monkeys, you cannot compare to the big, scary gorillas that swing by.

Also a reference to the legendary wrestler and commentator, Gorilla Monsoon. He worked for the WWF for over 30 years, including as a performer, commentator and interviewer and as a kayfabe president of the organization.
