The things that matter seem so hard to hold, I Wish I Was Dead by Kno (Ft. Tonedeff)

The possessions, places, and people we care about most in our lives seem so hard to keep close to us. We can drift apart from everything we hold so dear in no time at all. Everything we hold so close can drift away from us in no time as well.

I shall impersonate a man
Come, enter into my imagination and see him!
His name... Alonso Quijana... a country squire
No longer young... bony, hollow-faced... eyes
That burn with the fire of inner vision. Being
Retired, he has much time for books. He studies
Them from morn to night and often through the
Night as well. And all he reads oppresses him...
Fills him with indignation at man's murderous
Ways toward man. And he conceives the strangest
Project ever imagined... to become a knight-errant
And sally forth into the world to right all
Wrongs. No longer shall he be plain Alonso Quijana...
But a dauntless knight known as -
Don Quixote de La Mancha!
Man of La Mancha (I, Don Quixote) by Man of La Mancha Original Cast

Don Cervantes begins to set the scene of this play within a play.

Don Quixote wasn’t born a knight, he wasn’t even born Don Quixote! Instead, Don Quixote is simply the old scribe Alonso Quijana. In his older years Alonso has spent most of his time reading and studying literature, and this has created a vision in his mind. He is disgusted by the hostility and aggression in the world around him. He longs for the days of honor and chivalry. This obsessive desire finally becomes so large in Alonso’s old mind that he recreates himself as the fearless knight Don Quixote de La Mancha, and sets forth to do away with evil from this world!

It is not known for sure why Cervantes decides to act out his play. It could simply be to delay the taking of his possessions or to pass the time in the prison. But, Cervantes could be using the story of Don Quixote to symbolize the violence seen all around during the Spanish Inquisition, which the play is set during. Don Quixote as a character could very easily represent those going against the church, seen as vile and insane.

May I set the stage? Man of La Mancha (I, Don Quixote) by Man of La Mancha Original Cast

During the beginning of the play, Don Cervantes is thrown into a dungeon by the Spanish Inquisition for taxing the church. He is instantly put to trial by the other prisoners to take away his possessions. Cervantes asks of the “court” for him to present the play he has been writing as a defense in the trial. They agree, and also comply with his request to play the other actors

Don Cervantes is not only one of the main narrators of Man of La Mancha, he also plays the main character and protagonist Don Quixote. (Remember that Man of La Mancha is primarily a play inside of a play.)

Additionally, Don Cervantes is also the author of the legendary Spanish epic Don Quixote that the play is based off. Talk about character development!

In a dungeon from hiding your supper from God's company Molotovs At Poseidon by YC The Cynic 7

Before meals, it is common for Christians to pray to God before they eat, which in a way, invites God to be with them while they eat.

However, like the others in this verse, many people have shunned away themselves from God. They refuse to speak to him and invite him into their lives. This has caused them to become locked away from Him, creating a metaphorical dungeon for themselves away from God and the salvation he brings.

I know the weight of the world outweigh the weight of my chains PWRTRP by YC The Cynic 5

Double Entendre

YC has felt the weight of the world, or the problems of the world, firsthand. He understands that the seriousness of the world’s problems, and how serious they are, instead of only being concerned with himself and his being, like his chains, that seem to be the sole concerns of so many.

Chains could also be taken as the chains of slavery and racial discrimination, that are frequently brought up on GNK. These issues are large issues to the world and YC, however, YC still realizes that compared to the rest of the world, they’re still minor problems.
