I had no idea what I would find when I looked up “atheists going to church” but I started working at the Lutheran Church that my Mom works at (she’s Catholic but works in the office) a few month ago and my duties have expanded to running the soundboard for the Wednesday night service and I’m actually beginning to like it quite a bit. I don’t believe everything they’re saying (last night they were talking about Jonah as if he really lived inside a whale) but there’s a good energy in the room that really seems to help my depression. It’s almost the exact opposite reaction the Catholic Church has on me now. Thankfully I work at the Lutheran Church every other Sundays but when I’m forced to go to my parents church it’s nowhere near the same.

The music is objectively way worse and most homilies tend to be very judgmental towards college students and LGBT people especially. Almost every time I would come home on the weekends my first two years if school the homily was about college students moving away from the church. Idk I’ve been pretty harsh on the Church in the past and I really wish I did believe because it seems to have a positive effect on most people who do (not the ones who use their beliefs to promote hatred). I don’t really know where I’m going with this anymore but I’ve just been pleasantly surprised that I’ve actually enjoyed going to services the past few months and that they are actually fun sometimes.

A former classmate of mine, and an actor in one of my films wrote this piece about her experience in Paris in the aftermath of the attacks.

This is proof of the effectiveness of corporate media fear mongering. Politicians take hawkish stances in the aftermath of national tragedies that advance the interests of the corporations who put them in office (see: Cheney – Halliburton connection leading to immense profits off Iraq War). The media then parrots these positions for fear of being labeled unpatriotic and enough of the people are convinced and atrocities committed in the name of “anti-terrorism” are largely ignored outside the academic left.

Here’s to hoping the French public won’t be caught up in the anger of the attacks and condone the continuation fo this vicious cycle that catches many innocent lives in its web.

I really don’t understand why conservatives are so up in arms about this resolution. I don’t see anything controversial about this statement, but then again I am a “candy assed fairy puss[y]” (see comments).

Obama later claimed that he wasn’t specifically referring to ISIS when he made the statement, that he was speaking generally about jihadist groups not named al-Qaeda. Politifact weighed in on this claim:

He was not specifically asked about Islamic State, but it’s pretty clear this is the group that was being referenced in the conversation. The transcript backs this up, as do news events from the time of the discussion.

We rate the statement False.

No denial from Fisher, just ad-hominem attacks at Harrison’s character. I mean, I guess it’s kinda hard to defend yourself when you bring in Gregg Williams as your Defensive Coordinator.
