When we wake from the dreams where God speaks to us, we’re lost. We don’t know what to do with his message because we can never fully understand it.

We fill ourselves with religious texts but do not digest (understand) the material fully.

“Speaking to us in dull murmurs as we try to sleep” refers to several things. The first being the fact that the message is not clear so it is a “dull murmur”. The second being the fact that some say God speaks to us in our dreams, but we do not realize it.

We have undermined the Word of God and taken much more out of it than we should have. Religious texts are no longer sacred.

We are killing each other over religion.

God weeps while his people stray further and further away from him. Like dreams, ears grow bigger with time. He waits for our ears to grow big enough for us to listen to him.

Anis is speaking directly to the people that consider themselves to be men and woman of God. They claim their actions are in the name of their God, but that’s impossible considering the nature of those actions. Because of this, Anis thinks they have forgotten who their God is.
