The iron long The West Coast Cypher by BET (Ft. DJ Quik, E-40, Kendrick Lamar, Kurupt, Snoop Dogg, Xzibit & YG)

Iron is slang for a gun. Since “The Iron is strong” I’m pretty sure he means weapons with long barrels like the following

It'll cost you a brain cell just to cypher with me How We Roll by Canibus (Ft. Panama P.I.)

Canibus is generally known as being among the most scientific and intelligent rappers out there next to KRS and Immortal Technique. Most aren’t intelligent enough to even rap in his presence but if you really want to…it’ll cost ya.

But is it worth hearing a million people problems and followed by Secret Service? Rule by Nas (Ft. Amerie)

Here he is referencing the President of The United States. A lot of people always associate him as the one who is supposed to rescue everyone from their problems both big and small. little do a lot realize that he is just one person. This lyric can also show the ignorant side of humans

He’s talking about all the obstacles that keep a lot of people from getting to the top and therefore living their whole life struggling. This last line says he is an exception to this.

You can hate if you want to, but that won’t stop Kendrick. He’s on the map now (touring,on magazine covers, selling album copies worldwide, etc. Most importantly, he made it out the hood).

We come from porches and alleyways Celebrate by Common

Common talks about those in the struggle and the ghetto and urban parts of the world whether they be in Chicago or Africa. Porches, alleyways, and corners are significant “landmarks” in the urban environment. It’s where youngsters as well as old folk make money (either the legal way like selling water or fried chicken, or the illegal way like selling drugs), hang out and just contemplate life.

Common also had a song called The Corner which touches this particular subject
