At the time of this recording, mid-term elections were coming up, and it was looking like the Republicans would gain a lot of seats in Congress. They would later win the majority in the House of Representatives away from Obama’s Democratic Party.

While Jay Dub probably identifies more with the Democrats than Republicans (being gay and all that), he doesn’t really care for Obama either, so can’t help but have some fun at his expense.

The political system is too in bed with the Church, and doesn’t represent people like Jay Dub.

…just that he’s got the same (lack of) respect for the Christian majority in his own country.

Also goes back to the burning imagery at the beginning of the verse.

Jay Dub wants to clarify to anyone who’s listening that he doesn’t have any respect for Islam either…

The Ten Commandments forbid the creation of graven idols.

Looks pretty graven to me.

For a while, it seemed as though Jones only cared about publicity, and wasn’t bothered about the very real consequences of the stunt.

US General David Petraeus, the general overseeing US operations in the Middle East, argued that Jones' action would put troops in danger.

This would be Terry Jones, a pastor who infamously declared that his congregation would hold a “Burn a Koran Day” on the ninth anniversary of 9/11.

These would be Fred Phelps and his Westboro Baptist Church. An organization such as his is technically a Church, and therefore would be tax-exempt like any other.

This is considered worthy of tax exemption

Under American tax law, Churches are tax exempt.
