This simile compares him to the legendary musician Prince and isn’t the first time Drake has done so. But he clarifies that if we’re talking about the hereditary title in the nobility of rap, he’s the king!
Prince is an odd reference for Drake to make, since his influence is a lot more felt in alternative hip-hop, with artists like Andre 3000 and Janelle Monae taking considerable inspiration from him.
When I first heard that line I thought the “king” was also a reference to Michael Jackson
