This may be an allusion to the famous meeting between Diogenes of Sinope, the ancient Greek philosopher and founder of the school of cynicism, and Alexander the Great. Alexander sought out Diogenes in Athens, found him laying in the sunlit street and asked the professional beggar whether there was anything he could do for him. The cynic answered Alexander, one of the most powerful men in recorded history, that he could step aside because he was blocking the sunlight.
The sun is the brightest star in the sky, by a lot. You’d have to be as (metaphorically) bright as the sun to make these guys defer to you. Nobody’s as bright as the sun. Nah mean?
