Banks recalls a 2003 episode of the TV series Making The Band 2, a show centered on creating the next big rap group. Hip-hop mogul Puff Daddy famously tasked the program’s contestants with collecting a slice of strawberry cheesecake on foot. The 12.4-mile long walk sent the members of The Band from the Bad Boy Records offices in Midtown Manhattan to Junior’s in Brooklyn and back, which took the group five and a half hours.

The episode has become notorious for the burden it placed upon the group after they had already survived one season of the show. While trekking, the contestants dropped the first slice they bought and Puff wasn’t even present to receive the cheesecake once they returned. It’s caused artists like Wale, Ludacris, 2 Chainz, and Puff’s son, King Combs, to also reference the event on record.

Trey Budden, Joe Budden’s oldest son, put out a song called “Thought’s After the Courtroom” in early 2018 in which he discussed the difficulties of growing up with Joe as his father. Joe has long discussed the troubled relationship with his son in his music too; one notable example is the third verse on “Love I’m Good”, which Trey’s song is in direct response to.

Bizarre uses the confronting nature of Trey’s song to make his point, but Joe and Trey had resolved their differences long before the song’s release—Joe often talks about the positive relationship he has with his son on his podcast and he even brought Trey out to perform the song on a live tour.

“I Can’t Do Without You” is a soulful love ballad in which Jackson tells the tale of an unfaithful lover who, after breaking up with their muse, realizes their desire to be together again.

A copyright claim for the song dates back to March 7, 1969, yet the record wasn’t released until December 2011 when Fame Records began issuing vaulted material recorded during Jackson’s tenure at the label.

“I Can’t Do Without You” received a surge in popularity when its bridge was sampled for Pusha-T’s “Come Back Baby” in 2018.
