Ab-Soul’s truth is very vital to him. If he loses his commitment to being honest and truthful, he may as well be dead.

He plays on the multiple meanings of the word lie, which means both not telling the truth and to physically lay down somewhere. He states that if he lies, he would be lying in dirt, which at its surface is literal. However, the metaphor of lying in dirt is symbolic of death and reinforces his need to be truthful.

“As God is my witness” is a phrase typically used when the speaker is letting everybody know that they are being completely and totally honest.

Soul is spitting some real shit.

Also, in churches when preachers preach they’ll often give these toss-up questions to the congregation to both keep them awake and let them feel free to attest to what he is saying in the message.

This also adds to the religious undertones of the album.

There’s a play on the word ghost both literally and in the term ghostwriter.

Also, if Soul claims to be Jesus Christ then he is also claiming to be part of the Trinity; which is Jesus Christ, God the Father, and the Holy Spirit or commonly known as the Holy Ghost.

Ab is simply stating that he has another form that could write for him. The assistance could come from a literal ghostwriter (someone who composes lyrics for you) or an actual ghost.

Also the people who wrote the Bible are said to have received divine inspiration for the words and imagery used within the context of the Bible. Ab could be using this to show how he is being helped.

Talib would stand outside and battle other rappers (prey) and devour them like a predator would.

In battle rap you have to be organized and concise with your disses towards the other person and not ramble about different things. Kweli is breaking down his opponent and tearing him down with bullet points.

He uses the word bullet in two different contexts. One being the bullet points you would make on a presentation or paper, while the other is actual bullets that the youth and gangs of his area would disperse at rivals.

This is slang for putting a price on your head. If you’re not down with Soulo gettin money, he’s got to eliminate all competition. Hiring a killer usually costs a bit of money, so this shows Ab’s wealth.

He rapped something similar on “House Party 5”:

Some of my niggas real killers, put you down to Earth

Earlier referenced by DOOM in the song, Mok makes a similar reference to how locked down him and DOOM have the game.

A very vivid visual of how wounds are potentially dangerous unless they’re closed rather quickly by someone with the qualifications to do so.
