Many people believe protesting is highly ineffective, you do all that protesting and in the end you end up getting arrested anyway (i.e. Civil Rights Protests, Occupy Movements etc). Lupe’s saying it goes against what he believes, because no hustler would go out trying to get arrested. Lupe doesn’t think that getting arrested is foolish, but he sees no point in getting arrested to send a message. You should try to get your message across and not worry about getting arrested. The only people who think that you should get thrown in jail just to prove a point are the people that already did that (the jail niggas).
Lupe then implores us to lean towards more aggressive self-defense, as advocated by Malcolm X rather than the non-violent resistance employed by Dr. King. While Dr. King did support non-violence, he also supported self-defense in the face of violence, and was a supporter of the 2nd amendment. He applied for an licence to carry, but was denied, most likely due to the times. .
The usage of “manifested” might allude to Manifest Destiny, which is the idea that the US is meant to rule from one coast of the American continent to the other.

During one of the OAAU (Organization of Afro American Unity) meetings, Malcolm X himself said that it makes no sense protesting and subsequently get arrested. It only costs you money. With protests you’ll only reach the police department. Malcolm knew that you had to reach to the roots of injustice in America: the American government.

lupe is punning and flipping double entendres and peeling back layer after layer of the onion on this whole album, so i have no problem with “manifested” referencing manifest destiny, especially since it follows the line “the definition of unnecessary-ness.” isn’t white supremacy’s need to impute inferiority to other races “the definition of unnecessary-ness”? wasn’t the labeling of indians, first nations, as “savages” a necessary ingredient of manifest destiny?

I think the line links planned and perceived obselescence and ‘protesting just to get arrested together as they are both the definition of unnecessary manifested, or tangiblised.
Disagree with this: “The only people who think that you should get thrown in jail just to prove a point are the people that already did that (the jail niggas)” It sounds more like the people who have been thrown in jail also agree with Lupe that getting arrested for the sake of it is ineffective – they have experience with it and don’t want to go back in it just for nothing – the hustling ethics are that you have to have returns on what you’re doing, and almost everyone would agree, don’t plan on getting arrested and try to win as much as you can without getting arrested, it’s almost always not a good tactic
The usage of “manifested” here simply means to manifest or incorporate (as Freud would say, “sometimes cigar is just a cigar”). Lupe is saying that “unnecessary-ness” like protesting just to get arrested for photo-ops, etc. is instilled in our minds as revolutionary – when in reality, it is ineffective.
He could be making reference to the Occupy Wall Street Movement which has come to a halt after some “unnecessary” arrests, and we are still back to where we started.
The occasional peaceful protests without persistent effort is against Lu’s “hustling ethics” as he makes reference to taking Malcolm X’s “tip”: “By All Means Necessary”. Hence, protests should come in all forms, whatever is necessary to get where we want to be, instead we have accepted the comfortable lives, the occasional festival like ‘protests’, and the doctrine of “unnecessary-ness” is “manifested” in our mind.
