This interpolates the famous quote, “Work smart, not hard.”

An industrial engineer named Allen F. Morgenstern coined this phrase. He created a work simplification program in the 1930’s where the goal was to increase the ability of people to produce more with less effort.

Why is she conflating gender and race here? (The previous sentence discusses how white people make up a majority of positions at Google.)

In essence, she generates huge assumptions with these statistics and bases her reasoning solely on her perception of the ‘oppressor’ versus the ‘oppressed’… regardless of the social construct at hand.

For example, how does a man of color or a white woman fit into this argument? Are they oppressing one group but being oppressed in another? Based on the author’s logic, no. Rather, it is because white people make up the majority of positions despite the fact that women spend more time on social media… which makes zero sense.

He raised the question of what the implications are when we create academic environments in which professors are terrified to give something that comes off as “dissenting” in the eyes of the left.

…The issue of how we got there is extremely interesting and valuable. Recently, my work has been forcing on, “What does that mean for one’s intellectual life?” Like, “What does that mean for one’s ability to reflect on issues?” “What does that mean for one’s ability to make decisions about things that really matter?” Not Halloween costumes. I understand that some people think that matters, but that’s just evidence of an inability to show moral triage: to prioritize… some kind of a hierarchy to identify one need and another need and show why that’s important. And the way that you do that is through reasoning and rationality.

So when you attack safe spaces and when you attack trigger warnings … you’re actually doing them a favor … You’re giving people an opportunity to reflect on how they know what they know. And the only way you can do that is through an unsafe space. The only way you can do that is to really take a look at these ideas and examine [them]. There just is no other way.

So their values are arbitrary and subject to cultural capriciousness, unless they can be naturally derive. And they’ve taken out the engine of rationality, once they created spaces in which you can’t answer these questions.
