This isn’t to what Chuck D is referring, but to give some historical context, this song came out in 1991, on the Apocalypse ‘91: The Enemy Strikes Black album.
Before the 1990s (actually, as far back at the early 1970s) Nike was being heavily criticized for selling goods produced in sweatshops.
Information has been released, documentaries have been created, and protests/worker strikes have been made attempting to fight for workers' rights (i.e. better wages, less health/safety issues, doable working hours, less exploitation, etc.). It’s gotten better since the 1990s, but there is still more work to be done.
…So this passage can actually be interpreted differently for Nike workers in East/Southeast Asia.
For more information on the last four lines of the verse, refer to the next annotation.
Chuck D is referring to Nike’s lack of support to the black neighborhoods who support their product. He is giving second thought to his support for Nike, and the lack of reciprocation. Chuck D is known for his activist rhymes.
