Drafted by the Republican-held North Carolina General Assembly and signed into law by Republican Governor Pat McCrory on August 12, 2013, this law makes it so that (with a handful of exceptions) a North Carolina voter needs a valid in-state DMV-issued driver’s license or non-driver’s ID card, a US Military ID card, a veteran’s ID card or a US passport. Previously, many other forms of ID like college ID cards were acceptable.

On the federal level, many crimes, particularly drug crimes, are prosecuted with “minimum sentences.” These set terms on prison stay length have lead to massive overpopulation, needless imprisonment, and gaps in the system.
In this speech to the American Bar Association on August 12, 2013, Attorney General Eric Holder announced the lessening of mandatory minimum federal sentences for non-violent crimes such as drug offenses, among other changes.
The impetus for Holder’s change is that “a vicious cycle of poverty, criminality, and incarceration traps too many Americans and weakens too many communities.”

A letter sent to the family of Anthony Stokes, a 15-year-old desperately in need of a heart transplant due to an enlarged heart, by Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. The hospital is denying Anthony a transplant due to what they call “a history of non-compliance,” a medical term for “did not take his medication.” The parents disagree.
Anthony Stokes is dead.
He died when the stolen car he was driving crashed. He was running from the police after stealing the car and then shooting at a homeowner while trying to rob their house.
He also ran down a pedestrian while fleeing the police.
His legal history was no mystery to the hospital and they were trying to be nice about it by calling him ‘non-compliant.’
Where’s the entire letter? It will explain in detail, the exact reasons for the hospital deeming this teen angel, “non-compliant IN THE PAST.”
IN THE PAST? Did he receive a transplant IN THE PAST, only to reject it due to NOT COMPLYING with treatment regimens; for instance, not taking his anti-rejection drugs? That’s sure what it sounds like.
