If he returns to the United States, Mr. Snowden would be brought before a civilian court convened under Article of the United States Constitution and supervised by a United States District Judge Letter to Russian Minister Of Justice, 07/23/2013 by Attorney General Eric Holder

The single most interesting thing to be found in the Snowden leaking case (outside of the leaks)! This is a radical departure from existing government precedent, which has continually stressed the need to review and punish state crimes and treason within private military tribunals, rather than open court. Fellow leaker Bradley Manning is currently facing one such tribunal.

By placing Snowden in civilian court, the government removes claims of torture and bias, while also seeking public support. It is equivalent to the “come home…we won’t treat you too badly” call of every “betrayed warrior” troupe — the US is handing out an easy trump card.

The development will come when/if Snowden manages to leave Russia. This promise hinges on Snowden’s direct return to the United States. If, for example, Snowden leaves to Venezuela, there is little to suggest that the Unites States may not revoke the offer and force a military court.

14 Zhitnaya Ulitsa
Moscow 1 19991
Letter to Russian Minister Of Justice, 07/23/2013 by Attorney General Eric Holder

14 Zhitnaya Ultisa (ул. Житная/Zhitnaya Street) is the home to the Russian Interior Ministry. Interestingly, it is also the home of the Federal Penitentiary Service, where all of Russia’s federal (and not so nice) prisons are based. Russia, until recently, ranked first in number of prisoners per 1,000 citizens; the crown has now passed to the United States and China.

His Excellency Alexander Vladimirovich Konovalov
Minister of Justice
Letter to Russian Minister Of Justice, 07/23/2013 by Attorney General Eric Holder

These concerns were not falling on deaf ears: Konovalov is one of the more progressive justice agents in Russia. With a record of punishing police agencies who abuse their power and collaborating with European Union peace efforts, Konovalov might actually be genuinely concerned for the wellbeing and fate of Snowden, outside of meme political gains.

Second, Mr. Snowden will not be tortured. Torture is unlawful in the United States Letter to Russian Minister Of Justice, 07/23/2013 by Attorney General Eric Holder

Snowden, undoubtedly, is referring to one of two possible stories: the well-known torturing of “terror” suspects under the Bush administration or the alleged CIA “black prisons” across the world, in which torture is supposedly a tool of interrogation.

Realistically, Snowden’s fears of torture are unfounded, and knowingly so — it’s a buzzword designed to both gain the support of the Russian government and public attention. Much as the US government has used Snowden’s “high school dropout” record against him, the “torture” term draws a certain perception.

To his credit, fellow leaker Bradley Manning has been held in circumstances that both the Guardian and Amnesty International coined “oppressive conditions”. Even internal Marine Corps investigations revealed the same.

That's where I felt confused, where if a person kills someone, then you get charged for it Interview Excerpt: Zimmerman "Got Away With Murder" by Juror B29, George Zimmerman Trial

Which would be the law, if Florida’s controversial “Stand Your Ground” measure were not in effect. Because of this measure, those feeling threatened by imminent harm can use force to respond, instead of running. Zimmerman’s reaction was justified under the measure, hence why the prosecution fought to establish ulterior motives.

I felt like this was a publicity stunt. This whole court service thing to me was publicity Interview Excerpt: Zimmerman "Got Away With Murder" by Juror B29, George Zimmerman Trial

Initially, police were not planning to charge Zimmerman, much less expect a court date. Citing Florida’s controversial Stand Your Ground law, which allows for justifiable self defense in the face of danger, police thought the case to be a standard act of protection. However, with mounting public pressure and more evidence of an unclear struggle, the arrest and case came to light. With no witnesses and little evidence, the prosecution struggled from the beginning to make the case, suggesting that public outcry, not legal prudence, drove the trial.

Amazing, amazing, amazing. Because it’s hard in politics to really just make a statement as a human Thoughts on Trayvon Martin, President Obama, Race by Jay Z (Ft. Elliot Wilson)

A President, along with most politicians, is tasked so often with representing everyone that they lose a sense of humility and self. In some, this manifests as ego, but for others, they simply detach. Obama did not.

As Jay said in his “Open Letter”:

“Politicians never did shit for me
Except lie to me, distort history”

In 2012, noting that the far north is increasing in strategic importance and citing the need for informal dialogue among world leaders, the WEF launched its Global Agenda Council on the Arctic Dangers of Arctic Methane by Gail Whiteman (Ft. Chris Hope & Peter Wadhams)

It should be noted that this conference was not established to protect the health of the Arctic, but instead the economic possibilities: melting sea ice finally opened an easy “northern pass” shipping lane through the ice, saving billions in costs each year.
