Basically a whole firing squad of police officers shot this kid.

“Shot through his phantom” could either be referring to being shot while in a car, a Rolls Royce Phantom specifically, getting shot thus becoming a ghost/phantom.

Fam: “we saw this kid get shot right in front of our eyes as we left this club called Opera, and had to be on a plane a couple hours later. this is the only story i saw on it

This is also a parallel to his song Worldstar because it was during this time when he saw the kid get shot after they left Opera, people started shouting “Worldstar!” and it was the shouting that indicated Gambino to hit the deck.

Though Gambino has a younger brother who raps too, Steve G Lover, and Chance has a younger brother who raps, Taylor Bennett, Chance said it himself in a reddit AMA:

Gambino didn’t leave “Community” to rap more, he left to work on his new show Atlanta which premieres on FX. He will only be on the first five episodes of the upcoming season and then transition to work on his new show, a show he chose to produce through FX because they were flexible with his touring schedule.

If Gambino is the worst rapper ever, how did he help Chance The Rapper become so popular? He first brought Chance along on his Camp Tour in 2011, and had him on his mixtape Royalty. Gambino then did a song on Chance’s mixtape, Acid Rap

Also note that Bino has used the bovine-cosign rhyme before in his song “We Ain’t Them” from his mixtape Royalty:

No cosign, no bovine

It’s a play on the word “lowkey” and “Loki”, Thor’s evil brother from The Avengers. Donald’s saying that he keeps a low profile or he’s saying that he’s part of the Avengers and to keep it on the low.

Also a possible callback to Chance The Rapper’s use of the same wordplay in one of his songs.

Keep it lowkey like Thor lil bro

Chicago has been desolate in that “life” hasn’t really existed. Sure, people have been surviving in Chicago, but no one has been living it up.

Picante is Spanish for ‘spicy’. ‘Bino’s aunt was telling him to keep it spicy in the bedroom. Well that’s awkward…

This is also a reference to the Jay Z and Beyoncé song “Crazy in Love”, with the previous line.

This song is a narrative, but it’s not about Gambino; he’s just a speaker in the story he’s trying to tell. This is one of the only songs by Gambino in which the subject matter is not self reflexive. We can tell this is true because he mentions, among other things, the fact that his mother isn’t around and that his father is in prison. His mother certainly never abandoned him. Quite the contrary; she runs a foster care taking care of foster children as well as her own biological children. And his father? Well, if being too damn cool on twitter is a crime…
