No pops there to hold my hand
When I stumbled out the gates
Plantation Politics by Chris Wise 27

Fuck ‘em.

If you’re wondering about the repetition, this song was a complete freestyle. I was recording these vocals over another beat, but my family in the studio stopped the presses. Trevor queued up this beat and I took about 4 takes to find the right flows and now the rest is history. Literally.

Then I hope you can understand
These conflicts of a man
These conflicts of a man
These conflicts of a man
Plantation Politics by Chris Wise 27

Just a tribute to ERIMAJ, a band led by Jamire Williams, who used to dominate the percussion with the Christian Scott Quintet. All of these dudes are musical role models of mine.

This song was defining my life around the time I wrote Plantation Politics. Still a legendary jam!

I remain at peace
But it's a war outside, don't sleep
Bodies drop, blood stain my cleats
Hi-steppin' in the primetime
I'm tryna stay clean!
Plantation Politics by Chris Wise 27

I forgot to add the second “Don’t Sleep” on the ad-libs. My homies will never let me live on that haha. The references here should be pretty clear. I had the white/red Deion’s that retroed in like'08, but I sold them to my white homie tryna pass on the flavor.

No fronts when I'm talkin gold
Beast mode don't flinch
Talk slick, get pinched
See hawks stay watchin
The unwise get Lynched!
Plantation Politics by Chris Wise 27

This whole segment is about Marshawn Lynch. It just so happens to make practical sense in regards to life on my plantation.

Bringing back that Attack of the Clones feel
My fam-lay sling rock and roll
Plantation Politics by Chris Wise 27

Was big on Star Trak, Clipse and all that flavor back in the early 2000s. Loved Rock N Roll by Fam-Lay as well.

The entendre is about some homies I was working with who moved rock, and rolled. I was NEVER about that life, had to move away from that.

Said "waddup" to death, couldn't fear it
Cuz that's the master plan
Plantation Politics by Chris Wise 27

Some people believe that God has a pre-determined life span for them. I do not. I see myself as the master of my life’s journey, proven because my near-death experience was caused solely by my own irrational, unwise decision making. BOOM.

They said "Wise you was speaking too low"
Maybe y'all niggas just couldn't hear it!
Plantation Politics by Chris Wise 27

I’ve always been accused of speaking low, and my voice is deep. People would say “Stop mumbling!” So to have developed so strongly is a definite blessing. This song and my performances of it have drawn me a plethora of comparisons to DMX. Gargantuan shoes to fill…

Look around
Blunt wrappers and crushed fillings
Became A blunt rapper just to crush villains
Come to our village
Behold slavery's effects upon our children
Plantation Politics!
Gave us all rocks, but no scholarships
We pop poison Ciroc to build our sorrows in
Got hung over, save ourselves tomorrow then
Turnin' tricks, clutching dicks
Told me she modeling?
Plantation Politics by Chris Wise 27

Plantation Politics was going to be the name of my first project, because I felt the term described what I was going through and witnessing around me in Crown Heights. The original version of this song came out in December 2011. I’ve grown a lot since then and started living A LOT better.

To me, Plantation Politics is dead, because it’s a discourse around PROBLEMS. Let’s talk SOLUTIONS.

How do we rise above the substance and put down Ciroc?
How do we bring opportunities for the youth into the hood?
How can we beautify our community?

These are my concerns nowadays…
