Westside, Southside, it doesn’t matter, if it’s the hood in Chi there’ll be multiple (storefront) churches and a liquor store all on the same block.

Chicago Police are among the most corrupt in the nation. Their brutality cases notoriously go uninvestigated and lately they’ve been on a binge of not arresting fleeing suspects, but instead riddling them with bullets.

Dem Boyz are supplying and controlling multiple city blocks in their respective neighborhoods. In drug dealing, the entire system of drug dealers, baggers, cutters etc. in each respective crew/gang operate as one enterprise. Each new block added to the enterprise is analogous to a city/regional food-eatery adding a new franchise; it adds to the bottom line significantly which makes for Dem Boyz getting paid!

A news clipping from a few days after Christmas:
“Week after week, the South Side neighborhood has been ground zero for harrowing crimes like Tuesday’s mass shooting at a fast-food restaurant that left two dead and five wounded. This year, 56 people were killed in Englewood through Tuesday — a 40 percent increase over the same period in 2010.”

Mind you none of the 7 people shot in the above story was the person the shooter was going after–THIS WAS NOT A ROBBERY. It’s real out here.

Chicago certainly isn’t in the middle of the map (That’d be Oklahoma or something) but it is in the Midwest, and we all know Chicago runs the Midwest. It’s common for cats to rock White Sox hats because they’re all black, and black is the vogue color for the unsavory areas of Chicago (in addition to yellow, red, white, and blue at times). Also, many New Breeds wear Black Sox hats.

If you prepare properly it will prevent you from performing poorly. Also known as the 5 P’s.

These 5 P’s are the 5 points by which the The Gangster Disciples operate. GD is an infamous gang from south side of Chicago, where GLC is from and Kendrick has roots. GLC is a GD and Kendrick has stated his father and uncles were also earler members of GD’s.

The dream of a great summer (obviously) but Hurricane’s summer would’ve been in possibly reviving his boxing career that was all but over at that point. Nonetheless, there was a triple-homicide, Hurricane was falsely identified at the scene by another admitted criminal and from that point Hurricane was wrongly imprisoned. Freedom gone.

Additionally, an allusion to Langston Hughes' poem “Harlem,” which starts with the line “What happens to a dream deferred”.

After watching ‘Hurricane’ (because this is for the movie afterall) Common was left to think,“How can young disenfranchised youth get over?” It seems young kids cannot learn from their mistakes due to the severe punishments (Hurricane’s youth) and those who do overcome and seemingly “win” end up losing in the end (Hurricane’s incarceration, Malcom X’s murder, MLK’s murder, Huey P. Newton’s murder).
