Many people were disappointed with how WZRD turned out, as Cudi seemingly diverted from his original MotM1 & MOTMII and a Kid Named Cudi style, with a focus from rap to psychadelic rock singing. This caused many fans to accuse Cudi of ‘falling off’. The more recent songs Creepers, Just What I Am and this song earned back the respect of many Cudi fans, who state that ‘Cudi’s back’.

Cudi retorts, saying he never left, and that all the projects he’s done has been Cudi-style, and that he put his heart into them all, which the most dedicated Cudi fans would agree with.

Kendrick is on a whole other level, you could build a new faith around him. Dr. Dre, Snoop Lion (Snoop Dogg at the time), and Game “passed the torch” to Kendrick, elevating him to the status of King of the West Coast.

But let’s not forget Just Blaze, who produced the track. .

I guess that would make it Beats by Just Blaze. .

While no doubt Just Blaze deserves credit for his production on this track, Kendrick is not talking about Dr. Dre’s music on the track, he’s pointing out the fact that Dr. Dre made this all possible. Without Dr. Dre rap wouldn’t be what it is, and Kendrick definitely wouldn’t be where he is.

Everything Kendrick says in this verse is a direct reference to Dr. Dre bringing the harsh realities of the real Compton into hip hop.

It also nicely plays into the “short film” motif of the album; if this track is the triumphant song that plays over the credits, then Dre is one of the main reasons the album(/movie) exists, hence “this was brought to you by Dre”.

Dre’s saying when he goes to heaven, a Lambo’ll be waiting there for him to traverse heaven with, but for now, while he’s on this earth, he’ll stick to those late night flights, or a red-eye flight.

Little more elaboration on red-eye:

A red-eye flight is any flight departing late at night and arriving early the next morning. The term red-eye derives from the fatigue symptom of having red eyes, which can be caused or aggravated by late-night travel.

He also says he’ll ‘standby forever,’ which is a play on words. A standby is where you’re just in the airport, but you don’t have a ticket to a specific flight, but you’ve paid for a destination, so you’re on standby until a seat opens up to that destination.

In this way, Dre also means he’ll forever stand by his city, the city of Compton, and rep it till he dies.

Time to rest yo eyes now I guess
You been runnin' all day
You’ve been due for some rest
Just ain’t no need to strain in yo brain any longer

This may very well be the ‘GOOD Music’ version of Get Me To Church On Time, which follows the same melody and message in a way.

For example:

I’m getting married in the morning
Ding dong! the bells are gonna chime.
Drug me or jail me,
Stamp me and mail me.
But get me to the church on time!

Here, it is sung more similarly to Yellowman’s version:
