Wanting it all isn’t enough in the rap game: you can’t live off a one hit wonder. You gotta keep improving and working hard if you want to have a long career. Everybody “wants” to be the best, but only one person can be.

He believes some people had that chance and never did what they loved, Target is trying to do what he loves, but never got the chance. He feels envious of those who can do, but choose not to.

Target is addicted to rapping, but he feels he should have given up. He fears he will never be a household name in the industry, stuck to his old ways and shallow fame. He is also addicted to the point of blindness.

He is watching TV and a preacher (possibly an advertisement) is trying to sell hope to the hopeless. He admits he needs hope, but he doesn’t need the commercialized version the preacher is willing to give him. What he wants is the purity of music, but does not have the chance to use his talent.

He has financial woes and they are getting him down, witha constant buzz of “debt” in his ear. The same collector has been calling him, along with many more, all looking for money that he does not have. He feels like a taxi, which carry around people, because the bill collectors are always riding his back.

Hard Target uses the common image of his cigarette burning in the astray as a way to describe the hardship and monotonous life he has been accustomed to. It is the first colour he paints in a dull painting.
