Drake has been criticized for coming off like he was raised in a rough neighborhood when in reality Drake grew up in a nice Toronto suburb. 

His song “Started From The Bottom” really upset some listeners, claiming that Drake doesn’t have any idea of what it really is to be at the bottom…

Either way, Drake claims here that he isn’t a “hood” rapper but he is street smart and still understands what goes on in the hood.

This line also pertains to Drake’s appeal and his target audience. In his music, he tries to be accessible to both those in rough neighborhoods and children in prep school.

This line is similar to his line on the track, “Ignant Shit”, where he raps:
