Payments to the European Central Bank (ECB) are part of the emergency liquidity assistance scheme that Greece’s economy needs to stay afloat.

The ECB normally provides liquidity at low interest rates, as long as a national central bank provide adequate collateral. Risks accompanying the loan are proportionally shared between the banks that make up the ECB as a result. When a country has no acceptable collateral, then the ECB loans the country cash at a higher interest rate and shifts all of the risk to the recipient country.

Greece currently has no suitable collateral, only government debt with horrible credit ratings indicating there is little to no confidence the debt will be repaid. The country requires loans from the ECB because the recent debt crisis has sparked capital flight, leaving Greek banks unable to carry out normal operations.

The ECB therefore provides loans at a hiked up interest rate, taking junk-rated bonds and debt as collateral so that the Greek banks can continue to function on the understanding that Greece will carry out “harsh austerity terms” as part of a program to restructure the country’s budget and eventually repay the loan.

...elations of episode seven, it was clear that the incredibly complex web of misdeeds Nic Pizzolatto had drawn up for the season was logically sound, but very little fun to uncover. Ray, Frank and Ani (and poor, basically forgotten Woodrugh, although at least he got a highway named after him!) were all inadvertent victims, patsies who were marked for death or exile simply because they stumbled on Caspere’s case (or, in Frank’s case, did business with him). He was suspended from highway patrolling because he was falsely accused of soliciting a blowjob as a bribe, staining his legacy.

He rides around and discovers Caspere’s body and gets involved in a conspiracy that has the chance to redeem him.

He gets killed as a result of that conspiracy and the stain on his name is removed by naming a highway after him, when it was a highway that got him in trouble in the first place.

When I say Oedipus blinds himself I mean he takes long golden pins and shoves them into his eyes to avoid looking at his daughter-sisters born of incest with his mother-wife.

Also, a great way to keep our military strong is to not have it constantly fighting in nasty pointless wars all over the world all the time. The military really should be more of a last ditch effort. Our diplomatic position should not be to shoot first and talk second.
