The original beat more prominently sampled Bill Withers' “Just the Two of Us”
The “when we ride part” hook also ties in with the updated title “97' Bonnie and Clyde”. Bonnie and Clyde were a famous outlaw couple that committed crimes side by side during the Great Depression. Em makes this comparison since Hailie is now his partner in crime for the disposal of Kim’s body.
The hook is a cover of Will Smith’s “Just the Two of Us” Will Smith sampled Grover Washington’s vocals from “Just the Two of us” Will Smith’s song speaks about his relationship with his son.
Eminem flips this idea of a father and son’s relationship with this song.
