Desert Eagle 44 Magnum. “The fact that you’ve got "Replica” written down the side of your gun. And the fact that I’ve got “Desert Eagle point five O” written on the side of mine, should precipitate your balls into shrinking, along with your presence. Now… Fuck off."

At first Red(man) thought Andy Dufresne was a “tall drink of water with the silver spoon up his ass.” Then he narrated as follows, “The first night’s the toughest, no doubt about it. They march you in naked as the day you were born, skin burning and half blind from that delousing shit they throw on you, and when they put you in that cell… and those bars slam home… that’s when you know it’s for real. A whole life blown away in the blink of an eye. Nothing left but all the time in the world to think about it.”

The Lakers and Celtics feud started long before the Hatfields and McCoys – around the same time the Whigs and Tories started beefing.

This line could also be interpreted to refer to Miami’s Lebron, Wade and Bosh, but it is doubtful that Snoop would even acknowledge Miami Thrice when speaking on his Lakers.

“Wonton Ho” = “Fat Chick” as in “One Ton Ho.” It could'a been worse:

Brian Fantana: That was one crazy party. I am hung over.
Champ Kind: I woke up on the floor of some Japanese family’s rec room, and they would NOT stop screaming.
Brick Tamland: I ate a big red candle

Flipping might mean turning witness for the police, or “flipping” drugs and becoming competition to the Clan. Either way, GZA will naturally be pissed.

It could also be referring to his style. If anyone tries to bite his style tell him who it is and he will destroy them.

This verse starts “I used to give a shit, now I don’t give a shit more” and it ends here with Jay taking a shit on the competition as he pauses in the break to “move his bowels” which is a clever reference to the organ sample that laces the track (and to a bowel movement).

Jay-Z in Decoded furtherly explains this line saying

I went to such a visceral image here because i was trying to make a point: In America – and in hip-hop – success is supposed to be about accumulation and consumption. But the finest meal ends up as shit, which is a great metaphor for the fact that consumption’s flip side is decay and waste, and what’s left behind is emptiness. Empty apartments, empty stomach, unused objects. Which isn’t to say I don’t like buying things and eating nice meals as much as the next person (okay, maybe even more), but success has to mean something beyond that.

Inspiration is to be appreciated. And on Check Your Head’s first track “Jimmy James,“ the Beasties already noted:

This is a type of kinda like a formal dedication
Giving out a shout
for much inspiration

This theme will continue on “Gratitude."

“I give thanks” is Mike and Adrock. “For Inspiration” is Mike and MCA. “It guides my mind…” is Adrock. The next line is Mike, the third line is all three of them. A little easier to hear on the stereo mix.
