“A shout-out to my homeys at the Dovre Stove company!”

Lupe refers to his listeners here as wood stoves, with all the potential energy in the world; another interpretation sees the listener as a BMW (also known as a Beamer) with the high beams glaring.

Lupe feels like an old man preaching to his grandchildren: “Back in my day, women had self-respect and kids wanted to learn stuff!”

The line is also a reference to the alternative rock group Sonic Youth, soon to be entering their 30th year together

Women Lupe admires: Maya Angelou is a famous African-American poet. Sojourner Truth is an abolitionist and woman’s rights activist. If you mix the intelligence and strength of these two woman with the beauty of Melyssa Ford, THEN you will be Lupe’s ideal woman (just a little bit of this, that, this and the other thing and voila!)
