Following up from the Five Percent references Jay continues in a more modern light. Referring to himself as a god once again (Hov) and playing on the last supper — claiming he’ll turn up in a new pair of kicks.
The “new religion” in this case may be hip-hop itself; one of the first big singles in hip-hop was Sugarhill Gang’s 8th Wonder. And of course we already knew that Jay was the 8th wonder of the world.
The reference to “superstition” sets up a subtle allusion to Stevie Wonder in the next line. The hook on Superstition reads:
When you believe in things that you don’t understand, Superstition ain’t the way
Jay is the 8th Wonder (not of this world…), he’s alien — Things you don’t understand.
