I was like, “Domo, I need you to speak to me like I’m the white homie and I’m not sure if I can be here. And be like, ‘Gimme them bars,’ like I’m Rabbit in “8 Mile.” You tellin' me to get on that stage.”

He did a few takes—Domo is a perfectionist. We had to get him drunk off the Henny first.

I wanted to say it really nonchalantly. It’d be really corny if I was like, “All I do is Sheen, drink Tiger Blood” or “I’m out here like Charlie drinking Tiger Blood.” That would be corny.

Hip-hop is great for the strong week-of current event rap. “Oh shit, Charlie Sheen just went crazy? Let me do a freestyle.” Didn’t someone have a song called “Sheenin?

Ab-Soul was working at the crib using the studio and I was rolling a blunt in the living room. He’d just gotten a bunch of beats dropped off and this was one of them. I was listening to it and that flow—“beh, duh-duh, beh.” Once the flow clicks like that, the words come easily. So I woke up Soul, like, “Can I have this?”

It feels like you’re flying when Miguel starts singing. It’s so beautiful. One time someone asked if that was me singing. I was like, “Yeah, definitely.”

I remember writing this rhyme scheme, like, “I’m getting off right now. This is gonna be nuts."

When I laid it down everyone that was in the other room was like “whew!” You don’t get a lot of that when you’re at a certain level. People stop being surprised that you can rap. When I was younger I’d lay something down and everyone’s like, “Yo, sick verse you killed it!” I don’t get that shit any more, so, when you get a “whew!” it’s a good day.

My weekend consists of going out, seeing some shows and getting back with the wife—having Mr. Nasty time.

Miguel brings a lot to all other pieces he’s on. But this goes with the song. The hook is such a relief when you get there. It’s like, “aaaaah!” The Miguel part is that same thing to your emotions.

The color scheme in that movie is pretty incredible. It’s a great movie. My favorite scene was on the bench, when Nas is kicking that knowledge. As a young me, I watched that and knew what I wanted to do with my life. When the Internet started crackin’ a little more, I found out that scene was based on “One Love.”

This song is about going through stress during the week and getting to the weekend to let it go. The verses are downers and then the hook brings you back up.

I met Lil B at the XXL Freshman Issue shoot. It was sick.

I wanted everyone on the record to do things they don’t normally do, or not just write a verse. So I wanted the Based God—the prophet. Lil B has a lot to say beyond making music. On Twitter he’s an advocate for positive things. People take him as a joke but he’s fucking serious. He’s saying things that people need to hear, things that if Kendrick said people would be like whoa! He’s a very creative individual with a lot to say.
