Sean is saying his girl makes him feel as high as the moon, with a reference to the Apollo 11 mission, in which Buzz Aldrin, Michael Collins and Neil Armstrong first walked on the moon.

In Greek mythology Apollo is the god of music, truth and prophecy, healing, the sun and light, plague and poetry .and is also the brother of Artemis, god of the moon.

This line could be interpreted in a couple of ways;

Firstly Gaga may be stating the obvious, that she is extremely rich, famous and powerful, and so Hollywood is the obvious location for those who have these things attributed towards them.

Additionally she is commenting on celebrity culture, and how everything that the famous do is stretched out by the media. If someone were to find the knife, stories would be appearing all over the country – and especially in Hollywood – for weeks because it was someone famous who murdered.

Lastly Gaga may be saying that if she is to get caught, it may as well become a headline story in Hollywood, as this equals exposure.

In addition to the Lina Morgana suspictions, this could be Gaga bringing up that Lina sacrificed herself for Gaga’s success. The Illuminati believers believe this theory and Gaga is playing off of it.

Like all great poetry, this line is imbued with ambiguity. Here the ambiguity rests in the word it. This could refer to the knife, the hood, the trunk, or even the former friend. Each of these interpretations adds a slightly different meaning to the song.

“Very Ape” is one of the more prominent examples of Nirvana’s sound as a band, incorporating soft verses and loud, rough hooks. The song was one of the few songs recorded with all instruments playing together on In Utero.

This may be another reference to the theory of evolution as Kurt is pointing out his view on the rise and eventual downfall of mankind.

Out of the ground refers to mankind’s creation, and the beginning of the process.

Into the sky is when humans peaked or blossomed in terms of their capabilities psychically and mentally.

Out of the sky/Into the dirt is Kurt pointing out how we have lost ourselves in the world.

Kurt was notorious for his distaste at the mainstream of his time, and how it always sent out the same messages, with the same toned-down sound, something that he hated conforming to for channels such as MTV. He also seen a lack of culture in music, specifically he hated how there was no real generation gap in music for his age group, and this is part of the reason why he created Nirvana with Krist Novoselic.

I can’t imagine what he’d think of today’s culture if he were still alive.

Kurt is pointing out and mocking the arrogance of many human beings who claim to know things indefinitely.

Towards the end of Cobain’s life in many interviews, he was very fixated on the shortcomings and flaws of himself and human beings.

This is also a play off of the title of the song, as Kurt is saying he was the firstborn (like Apes were in terms of Darwin’s theory of evolution) and has seen everything throughout human history, and so he is bound to have all of the answers.

It could also be a reference to working very hard at being perceived by others as hip and “in the know”, like grunge hipsters claiming “I saw that band before they were famous.”

Anthony is referencing his own ethnicity here. It may come as quite a surprise, but Kiedis' Great-Grandfather is from Lithuania, and his mother has Indian blood.

Kiedis is known for dancing during live performances (at least, when he isn’t singing).

Interstingly, in Lithuanian Lithuania is called “Lietuva”. The name derives from the noun “lietus” — “rain”. In other words, it’s a rainy place.

Lou Reed paints a quite chilling image in this verse. He describes the type of woman who experiences pleasure from hurting men, with toying with their emotions.

The verse is not, however, sympathetic to the man, it actually takes on a mocking tone. Phrases such as ‘Little Boy’ & ‘Clown’ reinforce the idea that the guy should know better than to trust her.

The Colosseum is an amphitheatre in Rome.

Largely unused today, in antiquity the site hosted many events, and is perhaps most notable in modern culture for the barbaric blood sports that took place. Gladiators were celebrated fighters who were some of the more valued members of Roman society, and were seen as entertainers, representatives and Super-Human. Riff-Raff is comparing himself to these people, perhaps saying that he can walk into a situation with extreme confidence and have a bunch of people applaud, respect and admire him.

Or he is just saying that he is merciless.

Josh is saying that the ‘Black Balloon’ is likely to return to make their relationship troubled once more.

Anyone familiar with therapy may have experienced a time when you are told to visualize a balloon floating away, which is symbolic of your problems doing the same. The colour black could be symbolically representing fear, anger and sorrow, so really Josh is saying goodbye to the fear for now, but anticipates its return.
