Dogs always chase the cats. Dogs being your homies. Cats being pussy that your homies chase.

Bitch, literally meaning a female dog so naturally where there are dogs, bitches exists. But its a slang pejorative for a person, commonly a woman, who is belligerent, unreasonable, malicious, a control freak, rudely intrusive or aggressive. So it´s just the natural order that among your homies human bitches exists, just like with animals.

Clever metaphor:

Cheese = money,
Rats — dishonest, greedy people or snitch.

Where there is money; greedy, dishonest people exist trying to take it. Just like how cheese attracts rats.

Cat=pussy, which is a slang for a coward and wimp. So just as cats are around rats since they want to eat them, snitches are around cowards since they are the wimp. Segway to the next line.

André 3000 has never been a proponent of the street lifestyle and has strayed away from it ever since an early arrest steered him in the opposite direction. On this sorrowful track with TLC, 3000 bemoans senseless killings that happen when a kid finds himself wearing the wrong colors in the wrong area.

He not only discusses what the hood and trapping, but relates it to social issues, the world of hip hop and his own personal life.

André spoke about the abrupt end to this song in a 2012 interview with GQ magazine:

There are actually songs on The Love Below that were not finished, but that’s how they are, that’s how it came out. Like the last track, “A Life in the Day of Benjamin André (Incomplete).” We were up like three days straight drinking Red Bull or whatever, finishing that album. I just knew I wanted to put that on there, but it wasn’t done, but it was enough.

This skit is discovering the difference between what people think and their actions after a one night stand. Ironically both liked it and wants to continue, but neither wants to risk making a fool out of themself and admit it to the other party.

Ice Cold is one of Andre Benjamins many aliases, so he must uphold his reputation of being ice cold.

I was just going for some kind of relationship honesty. In rap, we have this thing where you build up this steel exterior like you don’t care. Rap at the time was a laid-back mindframe, “We pimpin’ we players,” so The Love Below was an anti-response to that. I was going for a different take on the bravado of rap to show a more affected character. Whatever your emotions are, you have emotions…this character I had in mind is still a shallow guy going back and forth. You never knew which girl he would end up with. I wanted to be raw and bring things up, appeal to how people think for real. Like the morning after two strangers that have been intimate—what they’re really thinking right after is often different from how they’re acting.

He now meets his second woman of the album that he gets involved with. Also fittingly the name of the next track.
