If Jay-z and Nas are still alive how can you say that you are the king of NY and expect people will not laugh at you?

Crips and Bloods are two bitter rival gang that are among the largest and most violent associations of street gangs in the United States. It wouldn’t be smart to kick it (hang) with the Bloods even if you’re not a gang affiliated. He’s respected/ feared so much, he can go to a blood block when he’s crip affiliated and talk about how he’s shot bloods and no one will try him.

As Kendrick Lamar explains in his whole debut album, Good Kid, M.A.A.D City, he is the victim of his city (AKA Compton’s human sacrifice) and is just trying to survive/get away from it. Because Kendrick was just trying to get away from it, Uncle Murda believes the following saying is fallacious:

I’m tryna murder you niggas

Why is it fallacious? Kendrick wouldn´t do anything harmful to him. This being said, Kendrick’s saying referred to metaphorically killing them in the sense of owning them on a track. Uncle Murda, however, only aknowledges “real” West Coast rappers such as Game or Snoop Dogg.

Uncle Murda isn’t mad at Kendrick for calling these rappers out since hip-hop’s evolution has stagnated since everybody is friends. A famous idiom is “Competition breeds excellence.”

People make records saying “I am the best” and “he sucks,” but they never say names because in reality they want peace. Uncle Murda agrees with Kendrick on that point.

The talk of the week in the hip-hop world or even of the year. The infamous “Control” verse Kendrick Lamar made where he claimed to be king of New York and called out a bunch of rappers.

I’m Makaveli’s offspring, I’m the king of New York
King of the Coast, one hand, I juggle them both

But this is hip-hop and them niggas should know what time it is
And that goes for Jermaine Cole, Big KRIT, Wale
Pusha T, Meek Millz, A$AP Rocky, Drake
Big Sean, Jay Electron', Tyler, Mac Miller
I got love for you all but I’m
Tryna murder you niggas

Kendrick got what he wanted and created a stir in the rap world while offending a lot of people. Therefore, plenty of rappers made response records toward Kendrick and claimed themselves King of New York. Examples of this are: Lupe Fiasco, Joe Budden and B.o.B.

This is a metaphor where the sailboat is the rapper Lupe is after. A sailboat is built to be on a ocean meaning that even a rapper built for this/ a great one wouldn´t even last.
The ocean of his tears could mean the pain Lupe’s endured throughout his life, the things he’s seen/been around. This may string further from Lu’s upbringing in the notorious Chiraq and onto all the crazy things happening in the world we live in.

Other rappers aren’t as fierce/angry as Lupe simply because a sailboat, which purpose is to last on the ocean, would last in his ocean of tears (pain).

Rappers haven’t felt the pain Lupe has, thus they have never reached a level of anger that Lupe has.

When it rains God is crying.

His rhyme scheme is so intricate with metaphors that people don´t even understand them which is why people are saying “what in the world was that?”
This works of course in general with Lupe Fiasco which lead to Soulja Boy saying

I don’t want to be super-Lupe-Fiasco-lyrical and niggas
don’t know what the fuck I’m talking about.

But it´s also referring especially to his latest song; a response to Kendrick’s verse on control and the prequel to this song: SLR 2, since a lot of people, including here on Rap Genius, called it wack. This is his response saying that we just didn´t understand it. The truth is people seem to appreciate the old one more now that times has gone by noticing his mockery of other rappers using their flows.

Line 1 to Line 4: Rick Ross
Line 7 (“get these heathens off”) to Line 9: Meek Mill
Line 14 (“Lu the boy”) to Line 18: T.I.
Line 19 (“Dinosaurs, I’m fine”) to Line 24: Kanye West, Eminem, Tyler the Creator, any of them can be heard.
1:45-1:57: Jay Z?
1:57-2:12: 2 Chainz?
2:13-2:19: Drake, but also is similar to the hook in “Bitch, Don’t Kill my Vibe” by Kendrick Lamar
2:20-2:39: Kendrick Lamar?
Line 46 (“He’s so crazy) to Line 49: Lil Wayne

He is alluding to Kendrick’s hype/bandwagon: it started with yes men who basically agreed to everything therefore they didn’t support Kendrick for his skills and created a snowball effect with bloggers and artist ending in Good Kid, M.A.A.D City going platinum. He can’t believe people bought in to the hype, It’s like Kendrick said himself: It’s “The Art of Peer Pressure.”

The original Control song where Kendrick famously Crowned himself king of both coast

I’m Makaveli’s offspring, I’m the king of New York
King of the Coast, one hand, I juggle them both

Then called out a bunch of rappers which also caught alot of heat.

And that goes for Jermaine Cole, Big KRIT, Wale
Pusha T, Meek Millz, A$AP Rocky, Drake
Big Sean, Jay Electron', Tyler, Mac Miller
I got love for you all but I’m tryna murder you niggas

Which lead to many responding and calling themself King of New York, but none of these are the rappers Kendrick actually “called out”.
These are the lower tier rappers he is referring to that is only trying because they don´t stand a chance for example:
Iman Shumpert, Astro and Fred The Godson

He is alluding to the king of New York title as a championship belt.

This whole freestyle has an anti big label/ mainstream music message as I am sure you have noticed. This is saying it in other word but a continuing on the last line which referenced Wu-tang clan twice and ties with the next one where he is referencing another Wu-Tang Clan song that indeed Kendrick should Protect Ya Neck. So it can´t be a coincidence that Joe said this ain’t for the labels since Labels is from another critically hailed Wu-tang project: GZA´s solo album Liquid Swords.

The song Labels has similar message: warning about labels.
