Double entendre: taking something “to the hilt” means taking it “to the very limit” and he’s taking her to the Hilton to rent a room.

The hilt is the part of a sword between the handle and the blade. “Taking it to the hilt” means inserting the sword all the way in – it’s obvious phallic symbolism.

A reference to late Def Jux labelmate and El-P’s dear friend Camu Tao, who passed away in 2008 before his first album dropped. The two previously rapped together on “WMR.” The “Pump this shit” sample used throughout is from Camu Tao’s “When You’re Going Down,” and the “lil bitch” refers to Camu Tao as well, specifically “Hold the Floor,” where it is used in the Intro.

“Chopped and screwed” is a popular Southern style of production. Invented by DJ Screw in the 90’s, where songs are slowed down and crossfaded between, with the track playing on both decks a few beats apart.

He’s using a double entendre, referring to how lean can make you feel slowed down (i.e. chopped and screwed), and also the use of screw as in fucking.

The A$AP crew takes many cues from Houston style.

The catchy refrain of “two shots of whatever” sounds like it would make the perfect club song, but it hangs over a confession that he’s not living up to his potential. I’d beg to differ- this is one of his best albums thus far..

With a sung portion by Bruno Mars, himself a subject of some strong opinions, this song examines Weezy’s past relationship with drugs and where it could lead him in the future.

Notably, the entire track sees Wayne talking to his reflection in a mirror, self-reflecting in an attempt to truly “see Wayne”.

Widely perceived as a show for women, Wayne bravely declares his affection for The View. How could he not feel this way after how well they treated him?

This is as close as Weezy can come to being a flower child. He opens with some almost whimsical imagery, and segues into his usual stoney ambitions.

One wouldn’t expect for a posse cut to end the album, or feature none of the Young Money mainstays like Nicki Minaj or Tyga. However, Weezy bucks tradition once again and assembles an international roster to close out his album, ending with an especially vicious verse from Busta Rhymes. He’s certainly reclaimed his dungeon dragon status from Nicki. Though this track has no Weezy at all…
