It’s truly idiotic. Why are people shocked? Trump and friends had pushed pretty far into the extreme yelling / peepee zone and taken a lot of flack for it. People have been suggesting that the Republicans are too crazy and childish to win a general election, and in this debate, everyone did what should be expected – they responded to this dynamic and moved to position themselves as more mainstream or whatever

Acting all shocked in response serves the Republicans. It makes the behavior seem less strategic and more genuine
