The Battle for Bunker Hill was fought during the American Revolutionary War, and it was a huge battle between armies that consisted of 2,400 redcoats and 1,500 colonists

This is also the battle where the saying “Don’t fire until you see the whites of their eyes!” has first been documented being said – although who it was said by remains a mystery.

The underlying (and slightly darker) theme of this song is that no matter the bad shit that goes on, and trust us folks here at RapGenius… there’s definitely some bad shit going on, life (in this case, “the beat”) will still keep going on, and of course, Webby will keep rocking it!

The Nagano Olympics (or, more accurately, the XVIII Olympic Winter Games) occured in 1998, in Nagano, Japan.

Chris Webby is currently on the last leg of his Bars On Me Release Tour… a mixtape that came out in September of last year, and the tour started briefly after it’s release, with it’s last day being May 21st.

Fun fact: I was at the Elon, NC show, and holy fuck it was amazing.

Check out this song of Chris' to see a very impressive listing of his accomplishments at the time of this project – and trust me, the list is only getting longer!

This EP dropped in 2011 – two years prior was his mixtape The White Noise LP, which contains songs like I’m So Broke, which (hilariously) details his struggle as a broke rapper!

He’s doing the drugs to escape from the pains of reality (a super maega ultra talked about topic in music – for instance, El-P does a fantastic job talking about it in this song).

Obviously, a ball on a soccer field would be a soccer ball (dat lyricism), and what happens to soccer balls? They get kicked around – which is what Yelawolf is tired of feeling like, being kicked around (dat lyricism), so he’s on the pills to forget about it, and to forget about how rappers he views as “not real” are more successful than him.

Cheer up, Yela! It’s about quality… not quantity!

And there is plenty of quality on Trunk Muzik Returns!

This is quite the clever triple entendre:

  • Comparing other rappers songs to the blaring, annoying sound of a siren, which can be heard on police cars, fire trucks, ambulances, etc.

  • When you delve deeper into different societies mythologies, you’ll learn of a race of creatures called Sirens. They are a race of beautiful women who lead sailors astray into wrecks by singing quite melodiously – similarly, the ignorant music that most rappers today make lead away the kids from good lives full of education and success and make them strive for lives filled with violence, drugs, etc, effectively leading them into a “ship wreck” of a life.

  • A siren is a pretty popular sound sample to use in hip hop today. Here, Kendrick implies that the rappers he are referring to didn’t get successful off of their rapping… they were just lucky enough to find a hot beat.

See Big Daddy Kane go into more detail on this by watching Ice T’s hip hop documentary Something From Nothing: The Art of Rap

Big Daddy Kane isn’t the only one who agrees with Kendrick…

Slick Rick was once a huge star, quite literally being known by the whole world.

His “style of rhyme” poplarized the storytelling aspect of rap that we all cherish today. That’s right, he’s the father of it!

Most new rappers these days were born in the 80’s (Kendrick Lamar and Chris Webby are two rappers that come to mind that flaunt it the most as a symbol of pride), which is commonly known as the “crack baby” era, as cocaine had become a heavy problem during that decade, with many parents being heavy crackaddicts (crackheads), and that habit would go on to affect their newborns, giving them the title “crack babies”. Kendrick Lamar goes into great detail on this on his album Section.80.

While the new generation rappers proudly display their youth in their songs to use it as their advantage, R.A’s old-ass self just laughs and mocks them for it. Compared to what he’s been through, these new rappers are “wet behind the ears”.

Wordplay with the literal and the figurative meanings of the phrases “thinking outside of the box” and “putting one inside of a box”:

  • Chino thinks outside the box, i.e. he thinks differently and from a new perspective, so he can put you inside of a box, i.e. leave you confused by his dope lyrics.
  • If he’s thinking while he’s literally outside a box, then he can obviously easily put you inside of it, again literally. Just like when you put letters in a crossword puzzle to spell the words out.

John the Baptist is a bibical figure who died from being beheaded after imprisonment.

This is a basic double entendre:

  1. Chino XL doesn’t wanna die — you tend to do that when your head gets cut off.
  2. He also doesn’t wannna lose his mind from the stress of struggling to get his place in the rap game, despite over a decade of rapping.
