toxic masculinity in nerd culture,

i had embraced for over a decade
without once considering its dark side.

my research into the subject

and their far too long timeline of incidents.
i set a goal for myself to read
every page listed, top to bottom,
saving certain concepts along the way
that felt fitting to compile into a song.
i got about halfway before
life drew me elsewhere.

fast forward to 2023.
used the beat for a random verse
with no ties to the original theme
other than the title.
but that acknowledgement of my masculinity
and its toxic potential has stayed with me,
and informs my thoughts, words, and actions
everpresently, especially around women.
