Mello was a pretty minor character, only notable for a few things

  • He had a pretty good sense of humor, often poking fun at the intelligence of the policemen he oversaw in the Western district
  • He was close with Major Colvin and while he didn’t fully support Hamsterdam, he didn’t turn Colvin in to his superiors
  • He was temporarily promoted after Colvin was forced into retirement, only to have his position later be given to Daniels
  • He appeared to be one of the “good” cops, who took issue with Burrell’s attempts to juke the stats
