The song addresses the failure of society, as a whole, both individuals and the masses (i.e. CNN, Fox, the news..) to accept blame for the pitfalls of our society. Instead of trying to identify and fix our issues, we instead try to blame everything under the sun for our shortcomings.

This song is from the debut album of Atmosphere named “Overcast!”

While ‘God’s Bathroom Floor’ was our local breakout song, this was the song that was our national breakout to the rap underground. While it did get us booked on mix shows across the country, I felt it was almost a 'cheating’ style of writing. I use the word ‘It’s’ over 50 times. That’s the hook. It’s cheating. Sometimes when we do a song a lot I feel the need to put it on hiatus, but this song did recently return to our live shows.

The song sampled The Bee Gees' “Walking Back to Waterloo and KRS-One’s Necessary

Winston Smith is the protagonist in Orwell’s 1984, and is described as drinking gin throughout the novel. He is at one point captured and put in prison (The Ministry of Love).

The prison may also be Sadistik’s own head, as Winston has to keep his actual emotions and thoughts to himself to avoid the Thought Police. This is also likely as Winston was not given gin in the Ministry of Love.

Reiterating the last lines, Cody is saying that he keeps a soft step, or is quiet, even though so many things are going through his head.

These 2 lines are a direct reference to the novel 1984, where the protagonist Winston Smith constantly has to keep is thoughts to himself to avoid getting caught by the Thought Police.

These lines are a reference to gangsta rap group RBL Posse’s song “Blue Bird”:

Man there’s a blue bird on my shoulder, can I kill it?
Man there’s a blue bird on my shoulder, can I kill it?
There’s a blue bird on my shoulder

The original line from RBL Posse’s song deals with the paranoia of being followed by a cop. This time around it’s not likely that the bluebird represents a cop, but rather paranoia in a broader sense. With the bluebird imagery being similar to the Twitter logo, this could tie in with the general theme of 1984 – Sadistik is feeling paranoid that somebody is always watching and judging him.

However, bluebirds have traditionally been used to represent happiness – see Charles Bukowski’s “Bluebird”, and the famous Disney song Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah.

A second interpretation could be Sadistik wanting to supress his positive emotions, represented by a bluebird. While it’s unlikely that he enjoys depression, he certainly embraces it.

So is this a path of glory
Or a dead end to a lonely saddened story?
Where I buried my confession I married my depression
Now the holy matrimony’s grown to owing alimony

Eyedea was known for smoking a lot of cigarettes, as can be seen in multiple videos. Instead of drinking his sorrows away, Slug decided to smoke cigarettes. As if he wanted to catch up with Eyedea, who supposedly smoked a lot more.

In addition to this, Slug was so notably upset that perhaps subconsciously he began to increase his smoking habits in order to inch closer to death (which inevitably brought him closer to Eyedea).

This may be a reference to a track off of Atmosphere’s last album called “Became”. This track is an extended metaphor where Slug talks about losing a person , while out camping in the woods. By the end of the song it seems like the person he went camping with became a wolf (as his footprints turned into those of a wolf).

Although Slug has said the track Became is not about Eyedea, it is still a similar metaphor. Losing your friend, a dog/wolf, in the wild.

The 20 year old Norwegian Ståle Sandbech won silver, after qualifying first in his heat. After landing an extremely clean last run, including a frontside 1440 and backside triple cork 1440 back-to-back, he ended up at a well deserved second place.

He also rocked a pretty interesting hair style during the medal ceremony:
