[CATELYN turns to ROBB with tears in her eyes as ROOSE suddenly reappears in front of ROBB. He faces ROBB and grabs him by the shoulder]

ROOSE: The Lannisters send their regards.

[ROOSE thrusts a dagger into ROBB'S heart.
The Rains of Castamere by Game of Thrones (Ft. David Benioff, David Nutter & D.B. Weiss)

Roose Bolton conspired with Walder Frey and Tywin Lannister in the betrayal of House Stark. Seeing that Robb was on the verge of losing the war, Tywin “made them an offer they couldn’t refuse”: kill Robb at the wedding and receive pardons from the king. Roose and Walder strengthened their alliance when Roose married Walder’s daughter, Walda Frey. All that was left was getting rid of Robb and most of his army. Right before killing Robb, Roose wanted him to know that the Lannisters were ultimately behind the assassination. Roose specifically quotes Jaime Lannister in a previous episode:

This differs from the the third book, A Storm of Swords, in that Roose tells Robb before he kills him that “Jaime Lannister sends his regards”.

The manner in which Robb is killed is reminiscent of a scene in the 1974 gangster epic film, The Godfather Part II. The don, Michael Corleone, survives an assassination attempt. In his quest to find the culprits, he tells one of his top henchmen, Frank Pentangeli, to make peace with his sworn enemies (The Rosato Brothers), in the hopes of rooting out the person who ordered the hit as well as appease Hyman Roth (who Michael believes probably ordered the hit). The peace meeting between Pentangeli and the Rosato Brothers goes horribly wrong, and he’s nearly killed in the process. Right before the attempted strangulation, one of the hitmen tells Pentangeli, “Michael Corleone says hello”, in order to make Pentangeli think that Michael betrayed him so that he could get revenge on Michael without Hyman having to get his hands too dirty.

GILLY: Our father used to tell us that no wildling ever looked upon the Wall and lived. Here we are. Alive. The Rains of Castamere by Game of Thrones (Ft. David Benioff, David Nutter & D.B. Weiss)

Gilly is both the daughter and former wife of Craster, a demented wildling who marries and screws his own daughters.

Craster was killed in his home during the Night’s Watch mutiny, following the White Walker/Wight massacre at the Fist of the First Men.

Craster only has daughters because he sacrifices his sons to the White Walkers, in exchange for peace with the supernatural beings. Gilly didn’t want her son/brother to suffer the same fate as his previous brothers, so she escapes with Samwell Tarly and heads back South towards the Wall. Craster used fear to intimidate his uneducated daughter/wives by implying that heading to the Wall will lead only to death. Sam and Gilly hope to reach Castle Black before the Night’s Watch traitors or White Walkers get a hold of them.

[GILLY stops and looks at SAMWELL in a confused manner]

GILLY: How do you know all that?

SAMWELL: I read about it in a very old book.

GILLY: You know all that from staring at marks on paper?

SAMWELL: Yes.

GILLY: You're like a wizard.

[SAMWELL smiles. Next shot, GILLY and SAMWELL gaze up at the Wall]
The Rains of Castamere by Game of Thrones (Ft. David Benioff, David Nutter & D.B. Weiss)

Samwell Tarly always wanted to be a wizard. It wasn’t until he met the uneducated wildling, Gilly, that somebody finally saw past his nerdiness and acknowledged his wizardry.

[ROBB pauses]

ROBB: So, Casterly Rock? I'm asking your advice.

[CATELYN pauses, staring at ROBB. She then looks at the map]

CATELYN: We have enough men?

[ROBB grabs a House Frey piece]

ROBB: If Walder Frey cooperates.

CATELYN: If Walder Frey cooperates.
The Rains of Castamere by Game of Thrones (Ft. David Benioff, David Nutter & D.B. Weiss)

Robb Stark asks his mother, Catelyn Stark, for advice regarding his plan of attacking Casterly Rock, the ancestral seat of House Lannister. Catelyn is leery of the plan mainly because she doesn’t think that Robb has enough men for the attack. Robb lost the military support of House Frey when he broke his vow to marry one of Lord Walder Frey’s daughters or granddaughters.

Instead, Robb chose to marry Talisa Maegyr. However, Robb believes that if he can get Edmure Tully (his uncle and heir to Riverrun, the ancestral seat of House Tully) to marry one of the Frey women, House Frey will once again join the Stark army.

Catelyn isn’t dumb, she’s very much aware of how difficult it’s going to be to win Walder’s support again.

So fuck the Lannisters and everyone that ride with 'em
Jon Snow and the Night's Watch finna slide some iron in 'em
Mother of Dragons by Big Boi

Big Boi is clearly not a fan of House Lannister. Whether it’s because of Tywin Lannister’s ruthlessness

Joffrey being a spoiled brat

Or Jaime and Cersei’s “special relationship”

Unfortunately for Big Boi, Jon Snow and the Night’s Watch are prohibited from engaging in the affairs of the Seven Kingdoms. Their job is to protect the realm from what lies beyond the Wall. Besides when you’re going up against White Walkers and wights

you really don’t have that much time to worry about the Lannisters.

It's Targaryen, the rightful bloodline Mother of Dragons by Big Boi

Daenerys Targaryen is part of House Targaryen, a noble family originally from Valyria (an ancient city in the continent of Essos that was destroyed centuries ago).

For 300 years, the Targaryens ruled the Seven Kingdoms. It wasn’t until Robert Baratheon’s rebellion, in which he ousted King Aerys II (The Mad King), that a non-Targaryen was declared king.

Daenerys and her brother, Viserys, are the remaining children of Aerys II. Viserys hopes to restore the throne to the Targaryens with the help of a Dothraki army.

Grenn: What in seven hells is that?
Pyp: They'll need an eighth hell to fit him in.
Alliser Thorne: Tell them your name.
Samwell Tarly: Samwell Tarly, of Horn Hill. I mean, I was of Horn Hill. I've come to take the black.
Rast: Come to take the black pudding.
Alliser Thorne: Well, you couldn't be any worse than you look. See what he can do.
Samwell Tarly: I yield. Please, no more.
Cripples, Bastards and Broken Things by Game of Thrones

Samwell Tarly (of House Tarly) is the eldest son of Randyll Tarly and Melessa Florent. Sam is very overweight and also known for being cowardly in a fight or battle. As the eldest son, he was the heir to Horn Hill, the ancestral seat of House Tarly. Unfortunately for Sam, his father Randyll (a ruthless and highly regarded battle commander) became fed up with Sam’s inability to follow in his footsteps as a strong warrior. He gave Sam two options: join the Night’s Watch, thus giving up his claim to Horn Hill and allowing his younger and more physically fit brother, Dickon, to become the new heir. Or, be killed in a “hunting accident”. Sam chose to live.

However, what Sam lacks in courage and fighting prowess, he makes up in intelligence. He is well read and eager to learn new things. That knowledge proves useful to the Night’s Watch, particularly his best friend, Jon Snow.

We're telling war stories. Who was your first kill, not counting old men?
Jaime Lannister: One of the outlaws in the Brotherhood.
Barristan Selmy: I was there that day. You were only a squire, 16 years old.
Jaime Lannister: You killed Simon Toyne with a counter riposte. Best move I ever saw.
Barristan Selmy: A good fighter, Toyne, but he lacked stamina.
Robert Baratheon: Your outlaw... Any last words?
Jaime Lannister: I cut his head off, so no.
Lord Snow by Game of Thrones

Jaime Lannister recounts the time the Kingsguard (royal bodyguards) were sent to the Kingswood (a large forest located near King’s Landing, the capital of the Seven Kingdoms) to defeat the Kingswood Brotherhood, a group of outlaws that operated out of the Kingswood. They were led by Simon Toyne of House Toyne, an extinct family from the Stormlands:

The Kingswood Brotherhood were a nuisance to King Aerys II aka The Mad King, so he sent his best men to put an end to the outlaws once and for all. Jaime was a squire but he tagged along and even killed one of the Brotherhood members. Jaime was more impressed by Barristan Selmy’s (a member of the Kingsguard who fought against the outlaws) kill than his own.

He even remembered that Barristan specifically used a counter riposte, a fencing move:

King Robert Baratheon hates the Lannisters and it shows when he makes a reference to Jaime killing the former king, Aerys II (“Who was your first kill, not counting old men?”). Jaime returns the slight with a bit of sarcasm when he notes that decapitated men don’t have last words.
