Nas pleads to listeners to adopt an unpredictable lifestyle that breaks free from the crime-jail-freedom-crime cycle, instead of the gun-toting ritual.

Additionally, that Nas consider gun-toting a “ritual” gets at the socio-cultural aspects of gunplay, and how it’s become so engrained in certain areas of contemporary culture.

Nas sees irony in the 21-gun salute and the three-volley salute since guns are often tools of murder.

Also “ to salute ” means to wish health. It’s ironic since guns do exactly the opposite.

Jay-Z would borrow from these lines in “Never Change”

It could also be interpreted that from birth until death, expect the unexpected" and the use of the word “rapidly” to remind everyone that life is short.

Jay-Z thinks that karma, which had him fearing life, will send him a daughter to get back at him. Maybe because Jigga has committed some past wrongs against women?

Nas expresses this same sentiment, on his song, “Daughters.”

They say the coolest playas and foulest heart breakers in the world,
God gets us back, he makes us have precious little girls.

In other news, Jay-Z and Beyoncé had a daughter named Blue Ivy Carter on January 7th, 2012. She stunts on hoes just like her dad does.

Pusha still gets his women from his drug connect’s (plug’s) stable.

With “fishin'”, he’s probably playing on fishscale cocaine, one of the purest, most potent forms of cocaine.

Houston, Texas has an up-scaled mall named The Galleria where he buys his women purses.

By declaring himself “Mr. Trick Bag”, Pusha T is probably referring to his constant gifts to his women (like purses) and he’s that also got a bag of tricks where “tricks” means women.

Roc Marci uses some baseball terms (“pitch” and “base”) for a bit wordplay.

He “pitches” (sells) cocaine (“base”). Bases are run in baseball to score points like cocaine is sold to make money.

This line is reminiscent of these infamous Jay-Z lines:

I father, I Brooklyn Dodger them
I jack, I rob, I sin;
Aw, man, I’m Jackie Robinson
‘Cept when I run base, I dodge the pen

Again, Jay pays homage to Rakim, by twisting the famous line:

I drop science like a scientist

By dropping “bombs”, Jay is dropping dope lyrics. Additionally, he’s probably alluding to the Manhanttan Project, which employed scientists to churn out the first atomic bomb.

Given that Pusha T, the King of the Coke Flow, says this, “birds eye view” means that Pusha is able to channel his musical vision because of all the “birds” (bricks of cocaine) he sold. It not only provided him with income but also provides the bulk of his rap content in some form.

And a traditional birds eye view allows people to see things they wouldn’t normally see. Pusha might be referring to his worlds travels by plane, which allows him alternate views of the Earth.

My Name Is My Name is the debut studio album by Pusha T. The album is a follow up to his January 2013 mixtape Wraith of Cocaine.

On April 29, 2013, Pusha T officially announced the name for his album, including the release date via Twitter, which was slated for July 16, 2013. This later ended up being the date October 8th, announced by the album’s executive producer, Kanye West in now-deleted tweets.

The lead single “Pain” was released on October 9, 2012, which was initially used as a promotional single, but later being included on the album. The second lead single “Sweet Serenade” was later released almost a year later, on September 4, 2013.

The lead single “Sweet Serenade” was released on August 29, 2013. Upon the release of the album, “Pain” was included on the album. Although being released less than a year later on October 9, 2012.

On September 14, 2013, the album’s tracklist was later revealed on Walmart’s website. A week later, on September 21st, My Name Is My Name was available for streaming on MySpace.

Pusha broke down the album during a Google Hangout session with the top Rap Genius Pusha T scholars, and his thoughts are summed up in the video below:

The album’s title is reminiscent of an iconic scene from the TV show The Wire.

Nielson SoundScan is a service that tracks music sales.

Pusha doesn’t need SoundScan to get rich. He goes diamond on his blocka by selling (“laying”) bricks of cocaine.

Also, albums with poor sales are called bricks (similar to the usage of “brick” in basketball). So a “bricklayer” is someone who can’t make a successful album for their life.

‘Cuz you know what they say about manual labor…

Note

Another, more far-fetched interpretation of this line is that Pusha does not track his cocaine sales (with SoundScan) as that would be more potential evidence for a court case against him were the records found.
