Kanye has touched on this in New Slaves about the privately owned prisons and it’s a serious problem. For one example, a judge was recently convicted for essentially selling kids to prison in return for bribes. In a lot of cases, the time doesn’t fit the crime and instead of focusing on rehabilitating a criminal and trying to change their ways, they sentence them to longer sentences in hopes that they associate with criminals and learn things, so when they get out, they resort back to the same things or worst things that got them in prison in the first place. It’s a sad circle.
