In Late July, one of J.Cole’s lines in a freestyle recieved backlash for seemingly being offensive to people suffering with autism.

In the Jodeci freestyle with Drake, J.C ole spits “I’m artistic, you niggas is autistic, retarded.” Following criticism of the line, J. Cole sent an apology letter to Autism Speaks.

The Cash Flow Statement is part of the “Big 3” accounting statements (along with the Income Statement and the Balance Sheet).

A Cash Flow Statement is usually compiled at the end of the fiscal year. It’s primary purpose is to track the inflow and outflow of cash.

Cash Flow is organized into inflow (cash coming in) and outflow (cash going out) as a result of 3 different types of activities.

1. Operating Activities
2. Investing Activities
3. Financing Activities.

For example, a cash purchase of a fixed asset would be marked as an outflow in Investment Activities. While a sale of an item to a customer in cash would be counted in Net Income, and therefore a cash inflow in Operating Activities. Cash Dividends paid to shareholders would be marked as an outflow in Financing Activities.

However, if a customer purchases an item on credit, and you have yet to receive any cash, the purchase would be added to Total Sales in the Income Statement, but must be subtracted from the Cash Flow Statement, since Cash has not yet changed hands.

Therefore, under accrual accounting it is possible to have a positive net income but a negative cash flow, and vice versa.

The purpose of the cash flow statement is to help managers understand their resources and also check the financial health of a company. Investors should also look at Cash Flow Statements to help decide whether to invest in a company or not.

EBITDA: Earnings Before Interest, Tax, Depreciation, Amortization

EBITDA shows the net income before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization (fixed periodic payments made over time, such as loan payments) are subtracted.

EBITDA is similar to EBIT (Income before interest and taxes), except depreciation and amortization are taken into account. EBITDA helps companies benchmark their performance without taking financing (leasing, borrowing, lending) and accounting (methods of calculating depreciation) decisions into account.

A REAL (or gourmet) grilled cheese sandwich can be found on menus at more upscale restaurants. They feature a hefty serving of variety of cheeses such as swiss and mozzarella (I make mine with pepper jack!) as well as different breads.

The MacArthur Freeway (Route 580) is shown in the map above, along with the Frisco-Oakland Bay Bridge (Route 80).
