The Double Mystery Tourbillon is a visual spectacle. Playing off the company’s history of “mystery clocks”, Cartier created this timepiece with a tourbillon that appears to be floating in space.

Cartier’s Head of Fine Watchmaking – and winner of “Best Watchmaker Prize” at this year’s Grand Prix – is Carole Forestier-Kasapi. It probably goes without saying that watchmaking is still very much dominated by men, but Carole has been a breath of fresh air at Cartier. More manufacturers should take a tip from Cartier and realize that a female perspective can be just as valuable, if not more so, in watchmaking.

This is a play on the common idiom “get your life on track”. As Dizzy matured he stopped doing hard drugs, so that he could focus on finding his path to success.

At this point, not only has he gotten his own life “on track” as a successful rapper, but he literally gets other artists to jump on his songs (tracks) as well.

The prices for luxury watches have sky-rocketed in recent years, which is not necessarily a good thing. However, that high demand for quality time pieces has also meant an increase in the prices of vintage watches.

For example, a Rolex Explorer 1060 that cost $165 ($995 adjusted for inflation) in 1960, is now going for $10,000+ depending on the condition.

By “luxury” I mean hand-finished mechanical watches, not cheaply made pieces of shit with a bunch of diamonds in it.

I got diamonds all in my watch, horses all in my cars
I get 10 bands for a bar – I know I’m finally rich

-Chief Keef

Roughly 90% of the watch market is made up of quartz movements. In other words, “battery” powered. Mechanical (or automatic) movements, on the other hand, are powered by mechanical energy, i.e. mainsprings.

Mechanical movements are much harder – and more costly – to create, i.e. much more exclusive.
