Getting it straight, meaning keeping the story factual. Also serves as a joke on the word “straight” meaning heterosexual, as the song goes into a clearly homosexual situation.

Fidel Castro, a Cuban revolutionary and Communist leader of Cuba for many years, is sworn in as Prime Minister (and later President). He had major involvement in the Cuban revolution (alongside Che Guevara). The critical stages of the revolution take place from 1956-59. Castro overthrew Fulgencio Batista’s dictatorship to establish democracy; ironically, he became a dictator as well.

This is a contrast with the previous line about counting cards being the best job he ever had. The first was the best in the sense that it earned him a lot of cash, the latter in the sense that it was the most honest work he’d ever done.

“Cleaning up” in the first instance could mean cleaning the pot in a card game (so winning lots) but in community service they often make you clean up in the form of litter picking. It could also mean to “clean up his act” and become a more stable person. This cleaning up is could also specifically refer to getting clean (from drugs) and the next line signifies him experiencing withdrawals.

To “call a spade a spade” is to point out when you’re making a euphemism, be it small talk or implying something that’s bothering you. Because of the way Matty’s reworded this there’s a contradiction – he knows that when she says she likes him she isn’t telling the truth. This goes towards to overall theme in the lyrics of their relationship being broken.

The song finds MC Ride in a sticky situation, involving an abandoned building with enemies outside and schizophrenic visions within. More than likely, this song also relates to the real-life scenario where Death Grips purposely lived at a ritzy hotel called Chateau Marmont as a proxy subversion of glorified celebrity norms.

The band released a short film-length music video for the song on January 4th, 2013.

In the world of the fashionable it is highly risky to wear two patterns at once as they can clash; few can pull it off. Coming to a party in plaid, say, when Meth’s wearing stripes would also ruin both your outfits. “Clash” can also mean fight or scrape. The patterns could represent Meth and the listener having differences on any level, or maybe he’d actually beat someone up for ruining his outfit…

Referencing the rapper 50 Cent. Before he became a commercial success with the help of Eminem and Dr Dre, he was notorious within the underground scene for his song “How to Rob” (released in August 1999, just 2 months before this song) which “jokingly” details him shooting and stealing from famous rappers, among them Meth’s Wu-Tang affiliates ODB, RZA, Ghostface Killah and Raekwon. Meth insults 50 Cent by pointing out that a half dollar is not a lot of CREAM, and he’s most likely just jealous of the Wu’s success.

Danny draws different representations of being in a kush coma with religious imagery; being in a coma means not being able to respond to anything, even pain, which could feel either heavenly (“angel wings”) or of punishment, anger and damnation (“hell fire”).

The second line further discusses the religious elements by comparing them to science, perhaps suggesting that this state he’s conscious of is so supernatural he’s actually deceiving scientific knowledge (also note the way conscience can be split into con-science).

The combination of religion and consciousness could also be derived from the shoulder angel, which personifies inner turmoil as an angel for the morally right and a devil for wrong and tempting.

The Wu logo is gigantic and infinitely recognisable in this way, much like the Presidents' faces that were carved out of Mount Rushmore.

Also, GZA’s 1999 album Beneath The Surface features his slightly altered logo carved onto the face of a planet.
