All people, no matter ethnicity, gender, or age, share an undeniable commonality as members of the human race. For this reason, KRS-One finds it difficult to understand why Blacks have been historically subjected to severe discrimination and horrific racist practices such as lynching.

While KRS-One’s music has, at times, been a source of negative controversy, he is trying to explain that his music actually conveys a positive message, that if taken to heart, might usher in a new era of social unity.

KRS-One is speaking to the hypocrisy of those who claimed to be Christians, but grossly violated the tenets of Christianity by enslaving and violently oppressing Blacks over a span of many centuries.

Had all self-proclaimed Christians actually behaved as such, the historical plight of the Black man may have been avoided.

KRS-One is making it clear that the knowledge that he is about to lay down is not conjectural or speculative in nature. He is sticking to objective facts and using metaphysics (the philosophy of how people understand the world) as his guide.

Having spent most of his early life in the South Bronx, KRS-One has truly lived and understands the street life that he raps about in his music. In much of his work, he directly addresses his audience, using his poetic rhymes to share his philosophies and opinions on the nation’s most prominent social and political issues including race relations, life on the streets, and even nuclear war prevention.

By the time BDP released Edutainment as its fourth studio album in 1990, KRS-One was already widely known and celebrated as a pioneer of hip hop music and culture.

The third type of racist actually believes that they are not racist at all. This racist might not actively engage in discrimination, but as BDP points out, being a bystander to racism and allowing it to happen while doing nothing to stop it is just as bad.

This first type of racist practices discrimination as a learned behavior taught to them by their elders.

BDP refers to this tradition of hate and prejudice passed down to future generations as the “Great White Way”– the idea that White Americans are inherently superior to Black Americans.

This is another way of communicating well-known idioms such as you can’t fight fire with fire and two wrongs don’t make a right. The fact is, those who have stripped themselves from preconceived notions and have taken it upon themselves to be educated, will realize that generalizing a group of people by physical characteristics will always lead to an ignorant worldview.
